Full Job Description

Director of Economic Growth

Coventry City Council is seeking an experienced and influential senior leader to provide strategic leadership for the next phase of Coventry's economic and place-based transformation. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive and serving as a member of the Corporate Leadership Team, the successful candidate will shape the city's economic future by driving inclusive growth, leading major regeneration and investment programmes, and maximising the value of the Council's commercial property portfolio to deliver both income and wider place-making benefits.

The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in economic growth, regeneration, infrastructure, property and development, with experience of securing investment, managing significant budgets and assets, and building successful partnerships across public and private sectors. They will combine strategic vision, commercial acumen and political awareness with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, inspire high-performing teams, and deliver tangible outcomes for communities. A collaborative, values-driven approach and a commitment to equality, inclusion and sustainable growth are essential, as is the ability to lead across economic growth, planning, transport, green futures, property and development to drive long-term prosperity for Coventry.

At Coventry City Council we are dedicated to making a positive difference to the services we deliver to the citizens of Coventry. The work we do improves people's lives - from helping them into work to providing clean and green places to live, to keeping people safe and protected.

Our aim is simple, to increase the economic prosperity of the city and region, improve outcomes and tackle inequalities within our communities and tackle the causes and consequences of climate change.

At Coventry, we're building a workforce that reflects our diverse communities. Guided by our One Coventry Values, we celebrate inclusion, diversity of thought, and lived experience. We especially welcome applicants from minority ethnic/global majority, LGBT+, those with a disability, and neurodiverse backgrounds - your voice can help shape a fairer future for our residents.
