Full Job Description

Are you passionate about supporting people with care and support needs to live the life they choose? If so, this job could be for you. An exciting role has arisen in the Adult Social Care directorate of Bath and North East Somerset Council. We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Payment Advisor to join our expanding direct payment service. You will play a vital role in advising both our adult social care teams and the individuals they support by promoting our direct payments offer, enabling people to live independently and make informed choices about the care they receive. We are committed to being a dynamic and creative organisation, working hard to think differently about how we approach our adult social care offer. Our direct payment work represents our strong ethos of person-centred interventions. What will you be doing? You will be supporting the Direct Payment Service Lead in the delivery of a sustainable and equitable direct payment service across B&NES Adult Social Care. Your key responsibilities will be:

  • To help shape and develop the direct payments service to support individuals and enhance their choice and independence.
  • To provide direct payments guidance and support to practitioners across Adult Social Care.
  • To assist service users with understanding financial responsibilities, including budgeting, payroll, and employment of personal assistants.
  • To maintain accurate records and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
  • To develop, implement, and review person-centred support plans that promote wellbeing, independence, and least-restrictive options. This may include face to face home visits.
  • To provide professional advice, early intervention, prevention, and advocacy, enabling access to community resources and local support to reduce or delay formal care needs.
  • To progress and maintain our direct payments 'Champions' programme and direct payments drop-in service.

Be forward thinking, innovative and self-driven
  • Have strong organisational and inter-personal skills
  • Be an excellent communicator, in terms of clear and effective verbal and written communication. This includes active listening and providing constructive and accurate feedback
  • Be able to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and thinking of an experienced Direct Payment Advisor or Social Care Practitioner
  • Demonstrate a passion for Adult Social Care and promoting self-directed support including direct payments
  • Be committed to your own continuous professional development, Disability Confident
  • About Disability Confident A Disability Confident employer will generally offer an interview to any applicant that declares they have a disability and meets the minimum criteria for the job as defined by the employer. It is important to note that in certain recruitment situations such as high-volume, seasonal and high-peak times, the employer may wish to limit the overall numbers of interviews offered to both disabled people and non-disabled people.
