Full Job Description

We're looking for a Digital Manufacturing Engineer (Digital Infrastructure) to help deliver our Digital Industrialisation Vision by strengthening the digital foundations that enable end-to-end interoperability across operations, manufacturing, assembly, test, construction, supply chain and partner environments. You'll define and deploy digital standards, connectivity patterns and secure-by-design approaches that support delivery from early works through First Of A Kind (FOAK) programmes and build the maturity required for fleet deployment.

  • Define, develop and maintain digital infrastructure standards, templates and minimum requirements for RR SMR SMaRt Factories and operational facilities, aligned to the industrialisation strategy.
  • Capture, analyse and validate business and user requirements across Design, Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Partners and SMR IT, translating these into fit-for-purpose capabilities (people, process, information and tools).
  • Plan, manage and deliver technology projects and work packages (safety, scope, cost, schedule, quality, risk, dependencies), including oversight of demand into SMR IT and supplier delivery where appropriate.
  • Drive OT/IT connectivity and interoperability across shopfloor and construction environments (e.g., IIoT connectivity patterns, data flows, interfaces and integration principles) to support the end-to-end digital thread.
  • Support implementation and adoption of digital tools and ways of working, including process standardisation, simplification, training needs and change management to drive measurable benefit.
  • Support information management approaches that enable lifecycle traceability and a complete digital record of the power station from concept to commissioning.
  • Contribute to the RR SMR cyber security and operational technology security framework, embedding secure-by-design and Export Control considerations into solutions.
  • Support demonstrator programmes to prove concepts, define best practice and create a reusable library of standards to scale to fleet deployment.
  • Monitor performance of deployed capabilities and drive continuous improvement through structured problem-solving and lessons learned.

A professionally qualified engineer (minimum UK HND/foundation degree or equivalent) in an engineering or construction discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience deploying and supporting digital tools, systems and/or operational technology in construction, manufacturing and/or supply chain environments.
  • Experience working in a regulated or controlled industry with a strong focus on safety and compliance (e.g., nuclear, aerospace, defence, pharmaceuticals).
  • Ability to capture and validate user requirements and translate them into practical capabilities across people, process, information and tools.
  • Project or work-package delivery experience (planning, monitoring and control), with clear communication of technical information to non-specialist audiences.
  • Experience (or the ability to quickly develop capability) in defining interfaces, data flows, and test/assurance approaches for operational digital system implementations.
  • Desirable knowledge
  • Understanding of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and information management principles.
  • Awareness of Building Information Management (ISO 19650) and Common Data Environments (CDE).
  • Experience complying with Export Control requirements (or demonstrable ability to learn and apply quickly).
  • Knowledge of OT/IT security concepts and secure-by-design practices., Obtaining Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance
  • Satisfactory completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
  • Satisfactory completion of a basic financial probity check

    Salary range: £42,00 - £55,150
  • Bonus: Annual incentive 12.5% target
  • Pension: Standard Rolls-Royce SMR pension 12% contribution
  • Benefits allowance: £2,200 + benefits
  • Holiday: 29 days + public holidays
  • Working schedule: 37.5 hours per week (flexible working options available)
  • We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can do their best work. If you don't meet every requirement, we'd still encourage you to apply-if you feel you meet around 75% of what we're looking for, we'd love to hear from you. We can make reasonable adjustments in line with the Equality Act 2010 throughout the recruitment process and in role. We also support flexible and part-time working where possible; working arrangements can be agreed with your line manager to balance business needs and personal circumstances. Background checks: As part of our offer process, Rolls-Royce SMR carries out security and financial probity checks on all offered candidates. This role is also subject to DoE part 810 controls. If you're excited by building the digital foundations for modern manufacturing and construction-helping to connect people, processes, information and technology across a complex value chain-we'd welcome your application. Why Join Us? You'll be joining a forward-thinking organisation that values transparency, fairness, and innovation. We offer:
  • A flexible, inclusive, and supportive working environment.
  • Opportunities for career growth in a rapidly scaling business.
  • A culture that values diversity, innovation, and continuous learning.
