Digital Assessment Creation Subject Matter Expert

As our Digital Assessment Creation Subject Matter Expert, you will work within a multidisciplinary assessment design team to help shape high-quality, accessible digital assessments. You will provide specialist assessment expertise throughout the development of digital products, ensuring that assessment standards, candidate experience and accessibility remain central to their design. A key focus of this role will be evaluating existing paper-based assessments for potential migration to digital. You will identify opportunities, constraints and risks, and recommend practical adaptations or technology requirements that protect assessment quality and create a positive experience for candidates. You will be accountable for providing clear, evidence-based recommendations that enable colleagues to make informed decisions about digital assessment design and capability. Additional responsibilities and accountabilities include:

• Develop and maintain digital assessment standards, guidance and best practice.
• Work with assessment, product, user experience and technology specialists to develop and evaluate concepts for new digital assessments.
• Evaluate digital assessment platforms, interactions and workflows, recommending improvements or additional capabilities where needed.
• Create mock-ups and prototypes to test assumptions and support stakeholder discussion.
• Use research and external perspectives to identify opportunities and inform future digital assessment design.
• Provide trusted specialist advice, constructively challenge proposals and help colleagues reach evidence-based decisions.
• Share knowledge and guidance to build digital assessment capability across the organisation.
This position has been classified as a hybrid role, requiring the selected candidate to typically spend 40-60% of their time collaborating and connecting face-to-face at their dedicated location. Are you an assessment expert who wants to help shape accessible, effective digital examinations?, You will bring strong experience of assessment design and development, together with relevant experience in digital product development, accessibility or the creation of digital assessments. You will understand the principles that underpin effective assessment and be able to apply them when evaluating new ideas, existing products and potential digital solutions. You will be able to interpret complex requirements, identify practical implications and communicate clear recommendations. Comfortable working across disciplines, you will build trusted relationships, challenge constructively and keep the needs of candidates central to your work. You will also be able to demonstrate:
• Knowledge of high-stakes assessment methods and standards.
• Experience of applying accessibility or inclusive-design considerations in practice.
• The ability to turn ideas and requirements into clear examples, concepts or visual representations.
• A practical and adaptable approach, with the ability to contribute effectively across different activities and areas of expertise.
• An ability to work effectively under pressure, adapt quickly to change, and prioritise workloads to meet challenging deadlines.

• Experience of creating mock-ups or low-fidelity prototypes to support product development.
• Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary digital product design or delivery team.
• Experience of customer or user testing.
