Full Job Description

We are seeking to recruit a part time diabetes specialist podiatrist on a fixed term basis for 12 months to cover maternity leave. Band 6 podiatrists, a secondment opportunity or a bank position would also be considered.

This opportunity involves working with our friendly, well established multidisciplinary team, including diabetes consultants, podiatrists, a podiatry assistant, vascular and orthopaedic surgeons, orthotists, plaster technicians, dieticians and diabetes specialist nurses. You will join the team in providing expert care to a high-risk group of patients with complex diabetic foot disease in outpatient clinics and within the inpatient setting, including assessing and treating acute foot problems in the emergency department (ED).

We also run as an SDEC (same day emergency clinic) providing an acute service to help support community colleagues and relieve pressures in the ED.

Addenbrooke's hospital is a regional vascular centre and a tertiary centre for complex diabetic foot disease and the post holder will be required to liaise closely with a wide range of health care professionals across primary and secondary care.

In order to meet service demand, the working days we are looking to cover are a Monday, Tuesday and Friday. However, we will consider an alternative working pattern., You will be registered with the HCPC and have excellent knowledge and understanding in the assessment, diagnosis and management of diabetic foot disease alongside excellent clinical skills. However, applications are also welcome from those with less experience working in this setting, if willing to learn and develop. There will also be an opportunity to work closely with a highly experienced foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon, assisting with post op orthopaedic care and treatment.

You will be responsible for the independent assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation of podiatric care to patients with diabetes affected by a wide range of co-existing complications and morbidities. These include neuropathy, vascular disease, cardiac and renal failure, dementia, acute and chronic infection. Care will be provided in a range of settings including out-patients, medical and surgical in-patient wards and the Emergency Department.

You will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of new patients. This will involve individual specialised care packages and provision of the appropriate foot care education advice to patients.
