Full Job Description
As a Diabetes Healthcare Support Worker, you will play a key role within our multidisciplinary team, supporting the care and treatment of patients attending our Diabetes & Endocrinology Centre. You will work alongside nurses, medical staff and allied health professionals, helping to ensure our patients receive the highest standard of personalised care.

If you're compassionate, eager to learn and ready to contribute to a team that prides itself on outstanding patient care, we would love to hear from you., We're looking for a compassionate and motivated Diabetes Healthcare Assistant to join our multidisciplinary team within the Diabetes & Endocrinology Centre at the Royal United Hospitals Bath.
In this role, you will support nurses, doctors and allied health professionals in delivering high-quality care to patients with diabetes and endocrine conditions. You will help run outpatient clinics under the indirect supervision of the Diabetes Specialist Nursing team and use clinical IT systems such as Millennium and SystmOne to support patient care.
This is a great opportunity to develop skills in a specialist area while contributing to a service that makes a real difference to patients every day., 1. Prepare clinic notes and consulting rooms ready for use.
2. To provide the efficient service of the day-to-day running of the clinics, ensuring notes and necessary documentation is in place.
3. To be able to use IT systems Millennium & SystmOne
4. Carry out duties such as performing urinalysis, measuring weight and height, working out BMI, taking base line observations including blood pressure and pulse, foot checks and blood glucose monitoring, performing blood glucose meter downloads, removing dressings in foot clinic, chaperoning patients during examination.
5. Receive and action enquiries from patients and colleagues both face to face and via the telephone.
6. Attendance at departmental meetings and engagement in projects to improve the department.
7. As necessary book patients in and out of the clinics in the absence of department receptionist to ensure the patient receives the best service.
8. Ensure department is effective and efficient with smooth running of clinics, with a high emphasis on the provision of a good customer service and effective patient flow.
9. Contribute to a team approach to patient care in conjunction with nursing colleagues, medical staff and allied healthcare professionals
10. Help to conduct endocrine tests such as Short Synacthen following protocols. This requires venepuncture.
11. Assist in the undertaking of tasks and procedures as per responsibility in which competency has been assessed and is specific to care environment
12. Receive patients/visitors into the area.
13. Ensure all patient information is available, up to date and accurate.
14. Liaise with all members of the department team and personnel within the trust to ensure effective smooth running of clinics, ensuring that Consultant-specific requirements are carried out prior to and post consultations.
15. Manage the maintenance of stock levels used within the department
16. Help promote and maintain a safe and clean environment conducive to meeting the needs of patients and their relatives
17. Provide support and reassurance to patients and their carers
18. Provide privacy for patients and respect confidentiality at all times
19. Assist with cleaning tasks, errands or general duties appropriate to the clinical area
20. Undertake any administrative and clerical duties as required
21. To participate in audit and research activities as required
22. To be proficient in safer patient/load handling and constantly being aware of the importance of using the correct techniques when moving patients and clinic bags
23. To be aware of your responsibility in relation to infection control policy and procedures i.e. effective hand-washing technique and escalation of infection control risks to the appropriate team. Eg. Cleaning department & infection control.
24. To take part in daily safety briefings
25. To be up to date with basic life support, and to appropriately raise the alarm in the event of a medical emergency.
26. To escalate any hospital transport failures to the appropriate team.
27. To complete DATIX reports for any adverse incidents witnessed
28. To complete SHIRE reports for any environmental damage/failure
29. To report any medical equipment failure to MEMS
