Full Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Design Manager to join our Building Division and lead the design delivery of major construction projects, with a particular focus on Department for Education (DfE) schemes. Working closely with pre-construction and project delivery teams, you will manage the design process from tender through to completion, ensuring projects are compliant, buildable, cost-effective, and delivered on programme. Initially, you will be based on our first project allocation within the Framework in Scarborough, with projects delivered across the North of England, including the North West and North East regions, as part of our wider Framework portfolio., · Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary design teams, consultants, and subcontractors. · Manage the design programme and integrate it with procurement and construction activities. · Review and challenge design solutions to ensure quality, compliance, efficiency, and best value. · Chair design meetings and manage RFIs, design changes, approvals, and information flow. · Support tender submissions through technical reviews, risk assessments, and contractor proposals. · Ensure compliance with DfE standards, CDM regulations, statutory approvals, and project requirements. · Identify value engineering opportunities and innovative construction solutions., At GRAHAM, we are proud to say that we are a committed Equal Opportunities Employer and we aim to be the first choice for people from all backgrounds.     · Degree qualified in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • · Proven experience as a Design Manager within a main contractor environment. · Excellent knowledge of the design process, construction methodologies, and buildability. · Strong communication, stakeholder management, and organisational skills. · Experience managing design teams through tender and project delivery stages. Desirable Criteria: · Membership of a relevant professional body such as CIOB, RIBA, CIAT, ICE or RICS. · Demonstrable experience delivering DfE projects and a strong understanding of education sector requirements is desirable · Experience working on major residential projects. · Knowledge of BIM processes, digital construction tools and information management systems. · Experience managing and developing junior design management staff. · Knowledge of Scottish Building Regulations and planning requirements. · Experience working for a Tier 1 or large regional contractor.
