An opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Ward Nurse Manager position on Ward 25. Ward 25 is a busy, 36-bedded acute general medical ward. The role involves supporting the Ward Nurse Manager in their absence and maintaining high-quality patient standards on the ward. The post holder will work without direct supervision and will take charge of the ward/department in the absence of the Ward/Department Manager, who holds continuing responsibility. Key responsibilities include the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, as well as effective leadership and staff management and development. The post holder will work within the NMC's Code of Professional Conduct. This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Further information is available at: www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check/overview, We invite experienced, motivated and independently minded Band 5 and Band 6 registered nurses who are able to act on their own initiative within agreed guidelines. Candidates should adopt a values-led, 'can do' leadership style within a climate of change and uncertainty, to implement and manage plans and performance relating to quality, care and compassion within the nursing service. This will be under the direction of the Ward Manager and the professional leadership of the Clinical Matron. The Deputy Ward Nurse Manager will ensure that operational plans and performance are closely managed by proactively leading and providing solutions to complex operational issues. This will be in accordance with agreed Trust objectives, targets, quality standards and resource constraints, with timely escalation of issues that cannot be resolved. The successful applicant will:

  • Provide visible and effective leadership and management.

  • Support a focus on quality across all areas of the ward.
  • Contribute to the delivery of the organisation's objectives., Co-ordinate the ward/department on a day-to-day basis, including planning, allocation and evaluation of work carried out by teams, individuals and self.
  • Provide specialist knowledge to all nursing staff on the ward/department.
  • Promote a critical and analytical approach to the delivery of nursing care, ensuring the ward/department environment is responsive to current issues.
  • Support the Ward/Department Manager in reviewing and updating procedures and protocols relating to patient care.
  • Develop methods to identify, maintain and improve the quality of patient care through facilitation of best practice and clinical benchmarking.
  • Ensure due regard is given to the customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients and clients.
  • Explore and undertake expanded practice, where required, to optimise patient care within the specialist area and in accordance with Trust policies.

  • Registered Nurse, current NMC registration
  • Teaching and assessing qualification or equivalent
  • Post registration qualification in speciality
