Deputy Team Leader

As Deputy Team Leader, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Team Leader in the day-to-day operational management of the district nursing service, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and person-centred care to a diverse caseload of patients in their homes and community settings. You will lead by example, providing clinical expertise, guidance, and supervision to Band 5 Staff Nurses and Band 3 Healthcare Support Workers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the team., A Band 6 Community Deputy Team Leader in a District Nursing team combines advanced clinical practice with leadership. They manage complex patient caseloads, providing expert clinical guidance and supervision to Band 5 nurses and Band 3 HCSWs, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care adhering to NMC standards.

They deputise for the Team Leader, overseeing daily workload allocation, new referrals, and resource management. This includes ensuring efficient service delivery and managing unforeseen operational challenges.

Key leadership duties involve fostering a supportive team culture, contributing to staff appraisals, mentorship, and supporting the induction of new staff. They help implement service developments and manage performance issues.

Communication is crucial; they liaise extensively with patients, families, GPs, social workers, and other multidisciplinary teams, ensuring seamless integrated care. They also ensure accurate and contemporaneous patient record-keeping.

Professionally, they maintain their own clinical expertise through CPD, engage in reflective practice, and ensure adherence to all policies, promoting patient safety and service excellence within the community.
