Full Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse to join our friendly and well-established Children's Nursing Team on Bluefin Ward.
Bluefin Ward provides care for children and young people from birth to 18 years, supporting a wide range of medical and surgical conditions. The ward includes a High Dependency Unit (HDU) area and a dedicated Children's and Young Person's Day Unit, offering a dynamic and varied clinical environment.
In this Band 6 role, you will take a key leadership position within the team, coordinating the clinical area, managing shifts, and supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centred care. You will utilise and further develop advanced nursing skills in areas such as respiratory support, fluid management, pain control, and the stabilisation of the acutely unwell or deteriorating child.

This role is eligible for visa sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Skilled Worker route however sponsorship can only be provided where applicants meet the specific requirements set by UKVI, including the relevant skill and salary thresholds (£25000), and any role-specific criteria.
Main duties of the job

The service is committed to providing a consistently high standard of nursing care for sick children and young people up to 18 years of age within University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. This includes outpatient, emergency, and elective care across the division, ensuring the effective and efficient use of resources.
As a Band 6 Nurse, you will play a key role in coordinating care delivery, supporting and supervising team members, and leading shifts within the clinical area. You will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care, demonstrating advanced clinical skills and professional judgement. You will also act as a role model, contributing to staff development, education, and the ongoing improvement of patient care services.
