Full Job Description

Are you an ambitious and inspirational school leader with a passion for driving excellence in teaching and learning and improving outcomes for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)? Renaissance Education is seeking an exceptional Deputy Headteacher to join our Senior Leadership Team and play a pivotal role in driving school improvement, strengthening curriculum provision and ensuring the highest standards of education across our specialist therapeutic school.

Working in close partnership with the Headteacher, you will provide strategic and operational leadership, ensuring that every pupil benefits from an ambitious, well-sequenced and personalised curriculum that meets their individual needs and enables them to achieve their full potential. You will champion effective teaching, meaningful assessment and pupil progress, ensuring educational practice is consistently evaluated and developed to secure the best possible outcomes for every learner.

As a key driver of school improvement, you will lead curriculum development, teaching and learning priorities, quality assurance and professional development. Using assessment information, pupil progress data and classroom observations, you will identify strengths and areas for improvement, translating findings into clear, measurable actions. Through purposeful monitoring, constructive feedback and effective staff coaching and mentoring, you will strengthen professional practice and embed a culture of high expectations, accountability and continuous improvement.

You will play a central role in implementing and evaluating the School Development Plan, ensuring strategic priorities translate into tangible improvements in classroom practice and pupil outcomes. Working collaboratively with teachers, support staff and other leaders, you will promote consistency in curriculum delivery, develop effective approaches to assessing and tracking progress, and ensure teaching is responsive to pupils' diverse learning needs. You will also support the development of a highly skilled and reflective workforce through targeted professional learning, collaborative practice and the sharing of effective approaches.

Recognising the complex needs of pupils within a specialist therapeutic setting, you will ensure high educational expectations are balanced with appropriate individualised support, therapeutic approaches and a clear understanding of barriers to learning. You will work closely with colleagues, families and external professionals to support pupils' academic, social, emotional and personal development, with a shared commitment to improving engagement, achievement, independence and life chances.

As Deputy Headteacher, you will be a visible, credible and approachable leader who inspires confidence, builds strong relationships and empowers colleagues to deliver their best. You will deputise for the Headteacher when required, contribute to whole-school strategic decision-making and ensure safeguarding, inclusion, wellbeing and high standards of professional practice underpin every aspect of school life.

We are looking for a strategic and reflective educational leader with a proven track record of improving teaching and learning, leading effective school improvement and securing positive outcomes for pupils. You will bring a strong understanding of curriculum development, assessment, quality assurance and staff development, alongside the ability to analyse evidence, challenge practice constructively and translate strategic priorities into measurable impact. Above all, you will share our commitment to ensuring children and young people with SEND receive an ambitious, inclusive and high-quality education that prepares them for successful and fulfilling futures.

In return, you will join a supportive and forward-thinking organisation that values its staff, encourages innovation and invests in professional growth. You will benefit from continuous professional development, regular opportunities to strengthen your leadership practice, breakfast briefings, relevant training and opportunities to share best practice across a collaborative team.

This is an exciting opportunity to influence the strategic direction of specialist education, develop outstanding provision and make a lasting difference to the lives and futures of our pupils.

If you are ready to inspire colleagues, lead meaningful school improvement and help every pupil achieve their potential, we would love to hear from you.

Successful applicants will be required to demonstrate their commitment to safeguarding and child-centred practice throughout the recruitment process and during their employment with Renaissance Education.
