Deputy Head Academic September 2026 or January 2027 Bethany School, Kent 11-18 Coeducational Independent Boarding & Day School ISI rated Excellent | Microsoft Showcase School Due to the promotion of the current postholder to Headship, Bethany School is seeking to appoint an outstanding senior leader as Deputy Head Academic, joining the School's Senior Management Team at an exciting stage of its development. This is a key strategic role for an ambitious and inspirational educator who combines exceptional classroom practice with the vision, energy and judgement to lead and develop academic excellence across a thriving independent school. About the Role Reporting directly to the Headmaster, the Deputy Head Academic will:
- Lead and shape the academic life of the School, including curriculum development, teaching and learning, assessment, and examination outcomes
- Play a central role in delivering the School's long-term vision, Bethany 2028
- Line manage key academic leaders and oversee professional development
- Deputise for the Headmaster as required
- Teach a reduced timetable, continuing to model outstanding practice in the classroom
- Play a full and visible role in the wider life of the School, working collaboratively with colleagues to support pupils and staff The Ideal Candidate We are looking for a candidate who:
- Is an excellent teacher with a strong record of GCSE and A Level success
- Has significant leadership experience as a middle or senior leader
- Demonstrates strategic thinking alongside practical delivery
- Is committed to inclusive education and the academic progress of all pupils
- Is a collaborative and visible leader who builds strong relationships with pupils and colleagues
- Embodies warmth, integrity, resilience, and a genuine enthusiasm for school life
