Full Job Description

The Band 6 Deputy Dispensary Manager role offers an excellent opportunity to develop advanced leadership, management and operational skills within a fast-paced Hospital Pharmacy environment.

As one of the lead Pharmacy Technicians you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and cost-effective delivery of dispensary services, supported by the EPIC electronic prescribing and inventory systems.

You will co-ordinate daily workflow across multiple workstreams, maintaining a timely service for discharge and urgent medications, whilst overseeing all aspects of inventory management including stock control, safe storage and waste reduction.

The role involves investigating discrepancies, incidents and complaints ensuring robust governance, accurate supply of medicines and continuous improvement. Whilst maintaining high professional standards in line with legal, professional, and organisational requirements.

As a line manager you will lead, supervise and support a team of Pharmacy Technicians and senior assistants taking responsibility for recruitment, induction, appraisals rota planning and managing performance and attendance to deliver a high quality, patient focused service.

Main duties of the job

Maintain dispensary SOPs.

Keep HealthRoster records up to date (leave, sickness, etc.).

Coordinate day-to-day dispensary workflow with the Dispensary Manager (rotas, training, task allocation, query resolution).

Ensure dispensary SOPs and policies align with Trust objectives, national guidance, and regulatory standards.

Provide professional leadership, using effective communication and influence to support a safe, efficient team environment.
