This is an exciting time to join the Trust and the team. The challenges are many and the opportunities to make a difference are vast. The Deputy Director of People & Culture will be a visible role model and help develop a class-leading people function which includes services such as Human Resources, Occupational Health, Payroll & Pensions, Resourcing, Workforce Planning & Information, Workforce Systems, Training & Development, Organisation Development and Equity, Diversity & Inclusion.
The Trust has recently appointed a new Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executive and is about to embark on a major culture change programme, in addition to reviewing and strengthening good practice and governance across the Trust, The Deputy Director of People & Culture will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to lead the transformation of the Workforce & OD Directorate at an operational level, ensuring resources are maximised and policies, processes, systems and working practices are translated into simple, effective and easy to follow practices and actions.
The role involves managing highly complex Employee Relations and Industrial Relations issues whilst identifying and operationalising employment law changes into everyday practices advising the Director of Workforce & OD, Chief Executive and Board as required.
Working with the Director of Workforce & OD, you will lead the development and implementation of the Trusts People Strategy in line with regional and national priorities, whilst leading the operational activity to achieve the objectives set out in the strategy.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
