Full Job Description
About us
Plumstead Manor is a thriving community school whose goal is to provide a world class education through our vision of excellence for all. This fundamental goal is supported by our core values of pride, ambition, respect and teamwork which infuse all our work together. We aim to release the full potential of every young person during their seven year journey with us, and support them to go beyond what they ever thought possible.
We are a vibrant, diverse and inclusive school with over 60 languages spoken across our community. We have a clear vision founded on excellence and justice, with the ambition to offer a world class education to the young people and families of Greenwich. Our recipe for success is based on high quality teaching founded on academic rigour, blended with the expectations, support and guidance to create a safe and happy environment. Above all, we want our young people to leave school equipped with the powerful knowledge and necessary skills to change the world for the better. In order to foster successful young people and cultivate harmonious communities, we aim to offer young people excellence in all that we do, so that they can overcome any barrier in their lives and secure greater justice.
Our curriculum offers a range of pathways, blending the mastery of knowledge with the development of transferable skills, which see our young people progress onto a full range of future pathways including medicine and veterinary science, courses at the most competitive universities as well as high-quality apprenticeships.
The role
Our Maths department, led by our Director of Maths has 13 well-qualified and enthusiastic members of staff, who successfully deliver the maths curriculum across the school. The team pride themselves in teaching to the highest standard and achieving fantastic results, using a wealth of data which is central to the planning and delivery of lessons. Students are encouraged to become independent and confident learners. Maths is a popular choice in the sixth form where large numbers of students study A levels in Maths and Further Maths. Many progress onto mathematical pathways beyond school.
We are seeking a Maths specialist who is passionate about their subject and who shares our vision and commitment to academic scholarship and high expectations for behaviour and personal development to support the Director of Maths in the leadership of the department - taking responsibility for one particular keystage.
We know our staff are our most important resource. As a result, professional development and well-being is vital to the success of the school and our young people. We are committed to excellence and justice in a successful and harmonious community.
