Full Job Description

We are looking for dental nurses to join our team on a full-time or part-time basis. This key role will provide dental nurse support, assisting in the full range of dental care provided and working alongside dentists, dental therapists/hygienists and receptionists in the care of service users.   • Welcoming and receiving service users into the practice.
  • Reassuring service users and explaining dental procedures.
  • Monitoring, supporting and reassuring service users through relevant behavioural techniques.
  • Identifying any complications and taking the necessary actions consistent with agreed local and national protocols.
  • Recording treatment, for example, baseline charting, clinical treatments and periodontal charting from the dental operators instructions.
  • Assisting the operator in organising the day's activities.
  • Monitoring and updating day lists and the appointment diary as necessary.
  • Preparing the surgery for use at the beginning of the session and clearing up at the end of the session.
  • Arranging for timely supply of materials and laboratory work.
  • Preparing filling and impression materials, instruments equipment, dressings and syringes as requested by the dental operator.

    Good standard of education to GCSE level or equivalent.
  • National Diploma in Dental Nursing Level 3 of equivalent.
  • Registered with the General Dental Council.
  • Desirable
  • Certificate for the examination in the care of the service user by the awarding body, the National Examination Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN).
  • Certificate in Dental Radiography.
  • NEBDN Oral Health Certificate in Oral Health Education or Certificate in Extended Duties Dental Nursing.
  • Or willing to work towards at least one of the above qualifications.
  • Skills Essential
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Good organisation.
  • Ability to empathise and reassure.
  • Familiar with dental software computer package(s).
  • Ability to work on own initiative with clinician or manager available for advice.
  • Take responsibility for making appropriate safeguarding referrals via the Safeguarding Lead and provide guidance for others to do so.
  • Demonstrate understanding and commitment to equal opportunities, equity and the promotion of cultural competency.
  • Experience Essential
  • Experience working as a dental nurse in different settings.
  • To demonstrate evidence of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Desirable
  • Experience of working in the salaried dental service, GDS, mobile services.
  • Experience of assisting with dental treatment under general anaesthesia and sedation.
  • Experience of domiciliary treatment.
  • Person Specification Qualifications Essential
