Full Job Description
Delivery Driver - Emmaus Greenwich is seeking a reliable and community-minded Delivery Driver to join our team in Greenwich, London on a full-time, permanent basis., As a Delivery Driver, you will play a key role in supporting Emmaus Greenwich's retail and social enterprise operations by carrying out collections and deliveries of donated goods and furniture. You will be responsible for planning routes efficiently, ensuring safe handling and transport of items, and delivering excellent customer service at all times. Alongside driving duties, you will support and supervise companions and volunteers, contribute to training, and help ensure health and safety standards are consistently met. You will also assist with shop operations, stock movement, and wider business activities that support the charity's mission and income generation.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Plan efficient collection and delivery routes, maximising time and fuel efficiency
- Load, unload, and safely move furniture and household goods in and out of vehicles and properties
- Ensure all driving and delivery activities comply with legal, organisational, and safety requirements
- Supervise, support, and train companions and volunteers, promoting excellent customer service
- Carry out routine vehicle safety checks and basic fleet maintenance
- Maintain strict compliance with health & safety, fire safety, and manual handling procedures
- Support donation quality checks in line with legislation and organisational standards
- Assist with house clearance, removals, and related administrative tasks as required
- Support retail operations including stock movement, Gift Aid, and sales activity
- Maintain accurate records for stock, cash handling, and general administration
- Ensure compliance with data protection, trading law, and internal policies
- Participate in the on-call rota and undertake additional reasonable duties as required, Emmaus Greenwich is part of the wider Emmaus UK Federation, a charity supporting people who have experienced homelessness by providing a home, work opportunities, and the support needed to rebuild their lives. As a Delivery Driver, you will hold a full driving licence and have experience in delivery planning, customer service, and working within a team environment. You will be confident handling and moving heavy goods, with a strong understanding of health and safety, manual handling, and safe working practices. You will bring good IT and administration skills, including basic Microsoft Office knowledge, and be able to stay calm under pressure while managing competing priorities. You will be a strong communicator with the ability to supervise and support volunteers, maintain professional boundaries, and work flexibly in a busy and sometimes challenging environment. Experience in retail, stock handling, recycling, or working with volunteers or vulnerable people is desirable, along with an understanding of homelessness issues and a commitment to Emmaus' values.
Salary:£26,000 - £30,000 per annum, depending on experience
