Are you a compassionate, proactive individual with a passion for providing high-quality patient care? We are looking for a dedicated Healthcare Assistant to join our friendly and supportive team, working flexibly between a small, well-established GP practice in North Shields and our PCN Health Hub. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a growing, innovative PCN team that is focused on delivering personalised care to the local community. You'll play a key role in supporting clinical staff, carrying out a range of vital health checks and procedures, and helping patients manage their health and wellbeing., The ideal candidate will work as part of the clinical team in delivering high-quality patient care. Duties include performing clinical tasks such as phlebotomy, blood pressure monitoring and health checks, as well as supporting long-term condition management and health promotion activities. The HCA will also assist with vaccination clinics, chaperoning, and maintaining clinical areas and equipment. Accurate record-keeping and working collaboratively as part of the wider multidisciplinary team are essential aspects of the role. This role includes participation in the Enhanced Access Service, with a requirement to work two 8:00pm finishes per week.

  • Phlebotomy
  • BP monitoring
  • Chaperoning duties
  • Urine Dips
  • Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses
  • Administration of prescribed medications under PSDs
  • Health promotion - Providing lifestyle advice on diet, exercise, smoking cessation, and alcohol awareness.
  • Diabetic foot checks
  • Supporting long-term condition management (e.g., diabetes, hypertension) through regular monitoring and collation of data.
  • Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being
  • Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
  • Preparation of clinical waste ready for collection.
  • Supporting infection prevention and control measures.
  • Maintaining accurate clinical records in line with practice and NHS guidelines.
  • Assisting with administrative and clinical tasks to ensure the smooth running of the practice.

    Experience of working in a nursing team
  • Experience of dealing with vulnerable patients, Experience of working in Primary Care GP practice, Care Certificate
  • Qualified in Phlebotomy
  • GCSE Grade C or above in English and Maths

  • North Shields Primary Care Network is a group of four GP Practices in North Shields who are working together with other health and social care providers and the voluntary sector with the aim of continually improving our community services in a sustainable way, that really makes a difference to the health and wellbeing of people living in North Shields and the surroundings areas. We have a collective list size of around 61,000 patients. Shields Health Hub is our PCN base, recently refurbished providing additional clinical and admin space for our member practices as well as working alongside District nursing and Talking Therapies. We are also home to a community garden which is managed by a dedicated team of volunteers.
