Full Job Description
Decontamination technicians are required to work within the Hospital Decontamination Hub, comprising of the Hospital Sterilisation and Disinfection Unit (HSDU), Endoscopy Decontamination and the Laundry Department. You will be responsible for providing sterile surgical instruments, scopes, surgical supplies and clean laundry and linen. Our services are used by the Trust's many wards, departments and operating theatres. We also provide a service to external healthcare providers. These supplies are essential for good patient care The post holders will be based at the Royal Blackburn Hospital (RBTH) sites for HSDU/Laundry and Endoscopy decontamination. The HSDU operates on a four week rota, Monday to Friday 24hrs and Saturday & Sunday between 8am - 6pm.Main duties of the job The department has a Quality Management System, work procedures and standard procedures. All work takes place to a high standard, quickly and accurately to meet the demands of operating theatres, wards and departments. Work takes place individually and as part of a team. In the HSDU you will be responsible for assisting with the re-processing (includes receipting, cleaning and packing) of standard re-usable surgical instruments, Medical Devices, equipment and procedure packs. Endoscopy processing consists of receipt, pre clean, decontaminating and packing Endoscopes. In the Laundry you will work on modern industrial machinery to wash, dry, press and fold hospital linen. In the Sterile Linen Unit surgeon's gowns, surgical drapes and wrap are washed, dried, inspected, folded and packed within a Clean Room. You will take part in cross-site working as required to meet the needs of the service., Decontamination technicians are required to work within the Hospital Decontamination Hub, comprising of the Hospital Sterilization and Disinfection Unit (HSDU), Endoscopy Decontamination You will be responsible for providing sterile surgical instruments, scopes, surgical supplies. These supplies are essential for good patient care, The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
An exciting full time opportunity has become available within the Decontamination Hub on the Royal Blackburn Hospital site. We are looking for someone that enjoys working within a busy day to day environment and likes to work as part of a team.,
- Level 2, GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English.
- Basic IT skills
- Evidence of completing further training and development or education. Desirable criteria
- To undertake a NVQ in Customer Care or equivalent in Sterile Services/Endoscopy Field, Good literacy and numeracy skills essential, Experience in a factory or packing role
- Experience in a healthcare environment
- Experience in a cleaning role, Ability to understand and be able to carry out a range of work procedures
- Able to work quickly and accurately.
- Ability to count, record numbers and read, follow detailed work instructions
- Able to understand and follow verbal instructions, detailed work procedures and training.
- Observe and comply with legislation Desirable criteria
- Previous experience of working in Sterile Services Department or medical device decontamination manufacturing or production environment.
- Experience of working within a peri-operative care setting or healthcare related clinical environment would be a considerable advantage such as Theatres
