Full Job Description

In June 2023, North Tyneside Adult Learning Service were officially recognised by Ofsted as offering outstanding provision for High Needs, in our Ignite Your Potential programme, with outstanding development of learner behaviours and attitudes. Following the promotion of a team member, we have an exciting opportunity available for a Level 3 Teaching Assistant. With 30 hours per week available over 38-weeks on a term-time only basis, part-time/ job-share application will be considered where appropriate and applicable.

The post holder will play an integral part in contributing to high quality outcomes and positive progression for 40 young people aged 16-24years with Education & Health Care plans. As part of our skilled and experienced team, you will work in various classes under the direction of our HLTA and teaching team to provide personalised support and assistance for students in line with their Education & Health Care plans. This could include those requiring detailed and specialist knowledge in particular areas and will involve assisting the teacher in the whole planning cycle and the management/preparation of resources.

You will assist tutors in the management of students both within the classroom and beyond including during breaks, lunchtimes, enrichment and community participation activities. On occasion the role may also involve supervision of whole classes during the short-term teacher absence.

Our ideal candidate will hold supporting teaching and learning qualifications at a minimum of L3 alongside experience of work with young people with additional needs and/or EHC plans preferably in a post-16 environment. You must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with learners, tutors, carers, colleagues and other professionals, demonstrating solution-focussed approaches and be able work on your own initiative within agreed systems of supervision.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate, in their application form, practical examples of how they fulfil the person specification.

Due to the nature of this post you will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure Check.
