Full Job Description
You will be responsible for the assessment development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, both for specific groups of clients as the named care provider and in supporting the care of all clients on the ward / unit.
As a qualified midwife you will be required to provide the necessary supervision, care and advice to women/birthing people during pregnancy, labour and the postpartum period and if required, to conduct deliveries under your own responsibility and care for the newborn.
You should have a sound knowledge in all areas of midwifery care, which facilitates clinical practice development.
You will be required to participate in your continuing professional development and other development activities and have completed a preceptorship programme. The post requires you to be an effective communicator and have the ability to provide support for the shift co-ordinator to ensure the effective running of the ward/unit in their absence.
You will also provide daily clinical and managerial leadership to midwifery and support staff in the delivery of evidence based client centred care.

The teaching and supervision of student midwives, student nurses and medical students are included.

We are looking for a confident, competent midwife to work days only. We know how difficult it can be to juggle your home/work life balance so we can be flexible with hours to suit your needs. Please note however, this service is 7 days a week.
Do you enjoy working autonomously and as part of a multi-disciplinary team?
Are you confident to care for clients with confirmed PROM, suspected obstetric cholestasis, reduced fetal movements, hypertension, proteinuria and pre-eclampsia?
Are you confident to take charge of shifts advising junior midwives, doctors and community colleagues on the management of high risk antenatal and postnatal women/birthing people?
Are you able to utilise our clinical guidelines to their full potential facilitating midwifery management of high risk antenatal and postnatal care?
If you can answer yes to the above, then come and join us on a secondment in the DAU team at University Hospital Lewisham.
