Full Job Description

General Dynamics Land Systems is on the look-out for a full-time Data Management Lead to join our Enterprise Excellence Team, based in Merthyr Tydfil. The successful and inclusive candidate will earn a favourable salary of £42,400 to £53,000 based on experience and potential. This is an ideal role for someone who has a proactive and positive mindset and a keen desire to grow professionally. Joining an established team, the successful candidate is required to be responsible for the efficient management of all processes supporting the creation, review, publishing, receipt and transmittal of data and documentation related to Land Systems programmes done in line with standard company policies and procedures as identified in the company Quality Management System (QMS). If you were already working in this position, this is what you would have been working on this week:

  • Manage, motivate and lead assigned DM staff within the LS project organisation.
  • Manage staff performance in line with company processes.
  • Be an acknowledged expert in company DM process and procedures; be able to provide advice and guidance on the tailoring of DM processes across the LS team.
  • Act as a focal point for DM issues with supplier and customer DM contacts.
  • Maintain excellent knowledge of relevant security and export controls on technical data; ensure that all controlled and draft data and documentation adheres to the prescribed handling policies.
  • Generate the DM process and ensure that this is maintained to reflect emerging best practice.
  • Ensure that the DM process is communicated and briefed to the LS team.
  • In conjunction with the IT, PMs and Engineering Leads ensure the set up and maintenance of the SHAREPOINT environment to match the programme needs.
  • Facilitate SHAREPOINT access for both internal an external parties in line with programme direction.
  • Ensure that the programme delivery team are conversant with the relevant processes and standards for the production of documentation and controlled data.
  • Support and champion the technical review process by ensuring the publishing and management of formal (FPR) and other reviews for internally generated data and documentation.
  • In conjunction with the sub contract management teams, support the technical review process of externally generated documentation in line with the agreed process.
  • Ensuring the management of controlled data within the controlled data repository in accordance with the DM process and in line with the agreed document repository structure.
  • Ensure that data is stored in line with the GDUK Records Management Policy.
  • Manage and track the formal delivery of documentation to the MoD in accordance with delivery schedule
  • Track the receipt of customer comment. Ensure that formal comments are correctly distributed to the correct recipient.
  • Manage the transmittal and receipt of documentation to/from the suppliers and subcontractors. Ensure that receipt notification is forwarded to the appropriate internal recipient.
  • Ensure the production of accurate and appropriate metrics showing the status within the DM process of internal and external documentation, A personalised career development plan, alongside regular progress reviews - supporting and valuing your progression within the Company

    Understand the principles of configuration management and data control
  • Awareness of commercial and legal constraints such as NDAs, ITAR, TAAs
  • Excellent people management, persuasion and communication skills, determination and tenacity, including ability to work with and influence senior managers.
  • Ability to work under pressure to very tight deadlines.

  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to prioritise
  • Good interpersonal skills and telephone manner
  • Security Clearance or ability to be cleared to SC
  • Ability to use engineering applications including PDM and Sharepoint to manage the identification, capture, configuration, usage and release of programme artefacts.
  • Strong experience of using Microsoft Office (especially Word, Powerpoint and Excel)
  • Able to work additional hours as necessary to accommodate programme needs
