HMRC's Risk and Intelligence Service (RIS) uses advanced analytics to protect public funds and help ensure the right tax is paid.   • You'll be part of the Government Digital and Data community, and a forward-thinking analytical environment where your work has real-world impact. What you'll work on RIS includes specialist teams such as:
  • Compliance Operational Insight & Risking (COIR) - building risk profiles and analytical products
  • Preventative Risking - disrupting fraud before it enters the system
  • Offshore - offshore intelligence and risk identification
  • Data & Risking Service - automated data services and bespoke analysis
  • Large Business Data Analytics - identifying tax risks across large businesses
  • Data Analytics Team (DAT) - analysis and insight across populations to support decision-making
  • What you'll be doing As a Senior Data Analyst, you'll:
  • Lead analytical projects end-to-end (from defining the problem to delivering insight)
  • Choose and assure the right analytical methods (statistics, modelling and coding approaches)
  • Build reproducible, scalable analytical products (workflows, dashboards, models)
  • Quality assure analysis and provide constructive feedback
  • Embed good practice in data governance, documentation, testing and ethical use
  • Present complex findings clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Build strong relationships to shape the right questions and deliver meaningful impact
  • Support and develop colleagues, strengthening analytical capability across the team

    You'll have experience in:
  • Delivering high-quality analysis using statistical/analytical techniques
  • Communicating complex findings clearly, including in challenging discussions
  • Managing data projects effectively (planning, adapting ways of working, stakeholder updates)
  • Developing coded analysis solutions in Python, R or Base SAS (with testing and documentation)
  • Applying good judgement around data quality, governance and ethics
