Full Job Description

One/Two Personal Assistants (PA) is required to support a giggly and energetic young boy with Autism and complex additional needs.

He enjoys going out into the community, especially visits to the park, swimming, walks/runs outdoors, and bus rides, alongside play and relaxing indoors. He benefits from calm, patient support and enjoys sensory play, music, nursery rhymes, and engaging one-to-one interaction. When he becomes overwhelmed or dysregulated, he benefits from quiet time, personal space, and a calm approach to help him feel safe and settled again.

The PAs will work closely with mum and follow guidance, routines, and strategies already in place to support him safely and consistently both at home and in the community.

He is non-verbal and communicates through sounds, pointing, gestures, facial expressions, and behaviours to express his emotions and needs. He can follow simple instructions when given calmly and clearly with actions. Experience or understanding of Autism, sensory needs, and supporting non-verbal children would be highly beneficial.

He requires support with personal care, including toileting, as he is unable to independently recognise when he needs the toilet. Regular prompting and assistance will be needed when out in the community. However, parents will ensure he is as ready as possible before leaving home.

The ideal PA will be kind, patient, reliable, and understanding of children with additional needs. The role involves building trust with him, supporting his independence where possible, and helping him access enjoyable activities safely.

Drivers with access to their own transport would be preferred.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check.

"Owing to the nature of this position, any offer of employment will be subject to a satisfactory checking report from the Disclosure and Barring Service, the cost of which will be met by the local authority/employer.", It is important to note that Choices and Rights are not the employer, we act on the employer's behalf and we cannot be held responsible for any actions arising from your employment. We are not an agency.
