Full Job Description
We are looking for a Customer Assistant who will progress to a Fishmonger Apprentice to join our store as part of our Proper Jobs: Fresh Start Programme.
About the Proper Jobs Fresh Start Programme
We know things are tough out there for young people right now. But we also know that lots of you are staying focused on finding a good career with great prospects. That's why we're launching our Proper Jobs: Fresh Start Programme. It will offer 1,000 new apprenticeships by 2030 to people like you who want to develop.
Our Proper Jobs: Fresh Start Programme lasts for up to 2 years. It combines learning in the workplace, formal off-the-job training and online learning., You'll start by spending 13 weeks working as a Morrisons Customer Assistant, before progressing to a 12-month apprenticeship in Fishmongery. If you successfully complete your apprenticeship and assessments, you could then progress to our Sir Ken Morrison Leadership School. This is a six-month programme, which can kickstart your journey into retail management.
The fish production business is a growing industry in the UK and Fishmongers are critical to the Morrisons Market Street offer.
After 13 weeks, you'll progress to a Fishmonger Apprentice, and through the apprenticeship we'll help you learn to cut, fillet, scale and skin fish, and learn about the different fish species and preparation methods.
You will be providing a friendly and helpful service to all our customers, whilst you develop through your apprenticeship programme.
Ideal for college or sixth-form leavers seeking their first step into the workplace.
No previous experience required - full training and support will be provided through the apprenticeship programme - you'll just need the ability to be trained to use the equipment required and the ability to be trained to prepare fresh items.
From a Bradford market stall to one of the UK's largest supermarket chains
Our core purpose:
To make and provide food we're all proud of, where everyone's effort is worthwhile, so more and more people can afford to enjoy eating well.
We are proud to be a Yorkshire food retailer serving customers across the UK through our network of 497 conveniently located supermarkets and various online home delivery channels.
Our business is predominantly food and grocery focussed and uniquely, we source and process half of the fresh food that we sell in our own manufacturing facilities and stores which gives us close control over provenance and quality. Our committed and trained food makers and shopkeepers prepare food in-store for customers and we have more skilled colleagues preparing food in store than any other retailer.
Every week around 9 million customers pass through our doors and over 118,000 colleagues across the business work hard each day to deliver great service to them. We cover over 97% of UK postcodes through our online delivery service. With competitive, permanently low prices we are committed to helping our customers save money every day.
We welcome applications from people at the beginning of their career journey who want to learn and develop.
The apprenticeship provides structured training and dedicated support, making it particularly attractive to those entering the workplace.
We value your hard work and commitment, and in return, we provide:
Generous holiday entitlement
15% discount in our supermarkets and convenience stores available from the day you join us
Additional 10% discount card for a Friend or Family member
