  • You will be joining an expert, dynamic, friendly and well-supported global community of expertise lawyers and other K&E specialists. Reporting to Head of Expertise and Legal Learning APAC/EMEA. The Regional Heads of Expertise and Legal Learning in APAC and EMEA are responsible for firmwide expertise and legal learning at Ashurst, and for coordinating our global community of expertise lawyers. Role overview The Cross-practice Expertise Lawyer will lead, coordinate and contribute to strategic initiatives aimed at ensuring our legal teams have the insights, skills and tools they need to deliver exceptional client service. This new and significant role presents an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that is at the forefront of legal innovation and excellence. The role requires a strong technical lawyer who can collaborate with senior practitioners, pivot effectively into emerging areas of law and drive quality by promoting knowledge sharing and knowhow development. The role will focus on cross-practice expertise development and may offer opportunities for secondments to support short-term expertise initiatives. The role will:
  • help coordinate Ashurst's response to emerging legal and market developments by leveraging expertise from across practices and regions
  • facilitate cross-practice collaboration to identify trends, opportunities and insights, harnessing the collective expertise of Ashurst's global network
  • plan, coordinate and assist with thought leadership campaigns and client publications
  • collaborate with the global expertise community to promote knowledge-sharing across the firm
  • coordinate the development and maintenance of foundational cross-practice knowhow, with the support of the expertise partner and expertise lawyer community
  • foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing
  • help drive the firm's commitment to next generation technology, including AI tools.
  • The role will require extensive collaboration with partners, fee earners and various members of our business services teams. The role would suit someone who has experience working in a knowledge function or who is looking to transition to an expertise lawyer role from a fee earning, in-house or academic position. Initial focus on AI The role will coordinate cross-practice expertise in a broad range of areas (see "General responsibilities" below). Initially, this will include a focus on artificial intelligence and other emerging technology, mobilising our global expertise and experience in helping our firm and our clients to seize opportunities and mitigate risks in the generative AI era. This will involve collaborating with others in the business including our expertise lawyer community to share AI use cases, capture AI-related knowhow and communicate risk-mitigation policies to the expertise community. General responsibilities Delivery of the Knowledge & Expertise strategy
  • Support the implementation of the Knowledge & Expertise strategy.
  • Develop expertise and knowhow in new and emerging legal areas
  • Proactively explore new and emerging areas of law and practice to help develop, promote and capture the firm's expertise and knowhow.
  • Coordinate expertise lawyers and other stakeholders (eg business development professionals) to share insights, identify opportunities and develop solutions.
  • Support the delivery of firmwide expertise initiatives
  • Collaborate with teams across Knowledge & Expertise and other firm functions to deliver firmwide expertise initiatives.
  • Coordinate and work with subject matter experts to develop and disseminate best practice guidance.
  • Create comprehensive training materials, and facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Coordinate sharing, creation and maintenance of cross-practice knowhow
  • Identify core areas of expertise and knowledge that need to be developed, maintained and shared across practices.
  • Coordinate and contribute to the collection, development and maintenance of cross-practice knowhow, in collaboration with practice-based expertise partners and expertise lawyers.
  • Legal learning
  • Create and foster a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing.
  • Support the delivery of cross-practice legal learning programmes.
  • Technology and AI
  • Support and collaborate with other business units on the implementation of next generation tools and technology, including AI by:
  • + coordinating the expertise community to identify use cases, issues, risks and training needs + capturing and sharing AI-related knowledge and expertise + communicating policies, guidance and training opportunities to the expertise community. Client-facing activities
  • Plan, coordinate and assist with thought leadership campaigns and client training.
  • Prepare articles for the Ashurst website, LinkedIn, and external publications to inform clients of developments.

    Legal experience
  • Qualified the UK, an EU jurisdiction or Australia.
  • Technically excellent, with abilities commensurate with a senior associate or above.
  • Open to lawyers with a transactional, litigation, or regulatory background who have a broad interest in the law and either have experience in a knowledge function or are looking to transition to an expertise lawyer role from a fee-earning, in-house, or academic position.
  • Interest and experience in plain English drafting.
  • Ability to pivot into new areas of law and practice.
  • Experience in technology law and regulation would be desirable, but not essential.
