Full Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity to join the London Ambulance Service as part of the ACCESS team totransfer critical care patients to and from Intensive Critical Care provision in a safe, effective and efficient manner. What is ACCESS? ACCESS is an NHSE London commissioned Critical Care Transfer and Retrieval service hosted by Barts Health and delivered collaboratively by London Operational Delivery Networks in partnership with London Ambulance Service NHS Trust. The service provides a dedicated and fully equipped mobile intensive care team for patients requiring inter-facility transfers whilst receiving ongoing organ support. Working with experienced clinical colleagues you will be operating a specialist vehicle to transfer the medical team across London and beyond. You will be driving under emergency conditions to provide a smooth and safe transfer of the team and patient, ensuring the vehicle and team are safe and appropriately equipped. There is 1 course planned based at our Brentside Education Centre. This starts on 19th October 2026 and will consist of 3 weeks of classroom training, which will result in the Ambulance Service First Responder on Scene (AFROS) qualification, followed by a 4 week Emergency Response Driving course which will result in a Certificate in Emergency Response Ambulance Driving (CERAD). You need to be able to start on the 19th October.Main duties of the job You will convey and transfer critical care patients to and from Intensive Critical Care provision in a safe, effective and efficient manner. You will be responsible for the provision of transport for the Critical Care Transfer Services, (CCTS), undertaking all driving duties including the use of driving under emergency conditions with audible sounds and blue lights. You will work as a Critical Care Transfer Service Operative alongside anotherOperative or appropriately trained staff member, to convey patients to treatment centresas directed. You will work closely with CCTS or Transfer Team colleagues to ensure that patient journeys are planned and delivered in the most effective and efficient way. You will drive all relevant vehicle types operated by the Service as required, in accordance withcurrent road traffic law., Our vision is to deliver outstanding emergency and urgent care whenever and wherever needed for everyone in London, 24/7, 365 days a year.
