We are recruiting for a Counter-Terrorism Officer based in our Darlington Office. This role is an excellent opportunity for an individual to take ownership of high profile, and high risk internationally focussed work, and to develop a large network of stakeholders inside and outside of government.
About the Team
The Office of Financial Sanctions Implementation (OFSI) has been operational since March 2016 and has quickly established itself as a world-leader in financial sanctions, a key area of foreign and national security policy.
OFSI is the UK’s Competent Authority for financial sanctions. It leads on the implementation of UN and UK financial sanctions and domestic terrorist asset freezing, providing a high-quality service to the private and third sector, and guidance to help them follow the law.
We work closely with law enforcement, intelligence agencies and strategic policy colleagues across Government to help ensure that financial sanctions are accurately understood, implemented and enforced.
We are a diverse and friendly team, offering an outstanding environment to broaden your experience and develop new skills, whilst working on some of the highest profile international issues the UK faces.
About the Job
The CT Sanctions Team administers the UK's counter-terrorism sanctions regimes, helping to protect national security through the implementation of terrorist asset freezes and other sanctions measures.
Key accountabilities include:
- Handling sanctions designation cases, reviewing evidence and providing clear, evidence-based recommendations to senior officials and Ministers.
- Monitoring developments across sanctions regimes and keeping key stakeholders informed of emerging issues and risks.
- Handling licence applications, working closely with legal advisers to assess applications and support decision-making.
- Leading or supporting investigations into suspected sanctions breaches, including engagement with the Police where appropriate.
- Supporting litigation and legal challenges relating to sanctions decisions, working with legal teams across government.
- Collaborating with colleagues across HM Treasury, the FCDO and wider government on the implementation of sanctions policy.
- Developing expertise in counter-terrorism sanctions and providing advice to Ministers, stakeholders and members of the public.
About You
You will be an analytical and proactive individual, able to assess complex information, think independently, and make sound, evidence-based recommendations, even when information is incomplete. You will quickly build expertise in a complex and sensitive area, exercise good judgement, and draw on a range of sources to reach well-reasoned conclusions. Most importantly, you will be motivated to learn, demonstrate our values, and have the ability to understand and navigate complex issues with confidence.
Some of the Benefits our people love!
- 25 days annual leave (rising to 30 after 5 years), plus 8 public holidays and the King’s birthday (unless you have a legacy arrangement as an existing Civil Servant). Additionally, we operate flexitime systems, allowing employees to take up to an additional 2 days off each month
- Flexible working patterns (part-time, job-share, condensed hours)
- Generous parental and adoption leave packages
- Access to a generous Defined Benefit pension scheme with employer contributions of 28%
- Access to a cycle-to-work salary sacrifice scheme and season ticket advances
- A range of active staff networks, based around interests (e.g. analysts, music society, sports and social club) and diversity
