Full Job Description
The person fulfilling this role is responsible for providing Legal support to Senior Counsel in the team (and where applicable, directly) on all aspects of WBITVP UK's television production business, with the opportunity to lead on projects and develop further into the role.,
- Drafting and negotiating development (including shopping, option and first look agreements), production (including location, participant, material releases), commissioning, co-production, format, licensing and access agreements for WBITVP UK's non-scripted and scripted television production businesses.
- Ensuring that WBITVP UK's television productions, whether being filmed in UK, US or other location, are carried out in full compliance with all applicable local laws and regulations (including instructing local counsel as required), and with WBD's legal standards, policies, processes and guidelines including without limitation those relating to anti-corruption, data protection and other risk areas, international travel/visa issues, undercover filming, working with children and health and safety issues.
- In particular, providing legal advice and support to the production teams on all aspects of UK programme compliance including general legal issues (eg defamation, privacy, contempt), Ofcom regulations, and broadcaster editorial guidelines.
- Provide on-going general business and legal advice to the UK production businesses.
- Attending internal and external meetings as required to fulfill these responsibilities
Technically very proficient lawyer - needs to have excellent understanding of copyright and contract law, and programme compliance, and excellent drafting skills. - Must be UK (or comparable jurisdiction) qualified lawyer with a first experience post qualification.
- Excellent academics; training and experience at top law firm or in-house in a television, film or advertising business an advantage.
- Ability to work autonomously on complex programmes and to own key internal relationships with the production teams.
- Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills. Hybrid Working - This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, that combines remote and in-office work, following our current company policy and to be agreed with your Line Manager. Subject to any applicable laws, WBD / your Line Manager reserves the right to change this working agreement where this is essential to business needs and upon reasonable notice to you.
