Full Job Description
Blackstone Legal Costing UK is a newly established and growing specialist costs law firm representing claimant solicitors in complex, high-value costs disputes. We focus particularly on catastrophic injury, clinical negligence and birth injury claims, providing a precise and strategic approach to costs recovery. The firm is the UK arm of Blackstone Legal Costing, Australia's largest legal costs consulting practice, giving our UK team the benefit of shared expertise, resources and an international professional network. We are committed to delivering expert legal costs services with integrity, precision and clarity. We work closely with claimant solicitors to secure the fair and proper recovery of costs in complex and sensitive litigation, providing clear and practical guidance throughout the process. As an expanding business, we offer the successful candidate the opportunity to play a meaningful role in the firm's development, contribute to the way we work and grow alongside the practice.
Role Description We are seeking an experienced costs professional to join us on a full-time basis, preparing and negotiating detailed bills of costs in high-value claimant matters, including catastrophic injury, clinical negligence and birth injury claims. Day-to-day responsibilities will include: Drafting detailed bills of costs, costs budgets and points of reply. Advising clients on costs strategy and prospects of recovery. Negotiating costs settlements with opposing parties. Ensuring compliance with the applicable rules, case law and procedural requirements. Maintaining clear and proactive communication with clients. Working collaboratively with the wider team to deliver accurate and timely work. Contributing to the firm's internal knowledge, systems and working practices. The role is based near Gerrards Cross in South Buckinghamshire. Hybrid or fully remote working will also be considered for the right candidate. Qualifications and Experience Strong knowledge of legal costs, civil
procedure and the detailed assessment process, ideally gained in claimant personal injury, clinical negligence or other high-value civil litigation. Experience drafting detailed bills of costs, costs budgets and points of reply, with excellent attention to detail and numerical accuracy. Strong negotiation skills and experience liaising with opposing parties on costs matters. Advocacy experience, including attendance at detailed assessment hearings, would be advantageous but is not essential. Effective legal research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and apply relevant case law, rules and guidance. Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex costs issues to clients and colleagues. Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage a caseload, meet deadlines and prioritise competing demands. Qualification as a Costs Lawyer would be advantageous but is not essential. A proactive,
ethical and client-focused approach, together with enthusiasm for contributing to a growing firm. The ability to work independently when working remotely, while remaining closely connected and collaborative with the wider team. Salary and Benefits Competitive salary, commensurate with experience. Flexible working arrangements, with hybrid or fully remote working considered. The potential opportunity to undertake a placement with Blackstone Legal Costing in Australia as the UK practice develops. The opportunity to play a meaningful role in the growth and development of a specialist firm. #J-18808-Ljbffr
