Full Job Description
Costing Officer
The University of Surrey is a global community of ideas and people, dedicated to life-changing education and research.
We are ambitious and have a bold vision of what we want to achieve - shaping ourselves into one of the best universities in the world, which we are achieving through the talents and endeavour of every employee.
Our culture empowers people to achieve this aim and to collectively, and individually, make a real difference.
The role
Are you someone who is organised, enjoys research support, working within a motivated team and variety in the scope of your role? We have a great opportunity to join our Research Office in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, based on our Manor Park Campus. The Faculty is an inspirational and fascinating environment to work in and home to state-of-the-art facilities. We deliver teaching and research to undergraduate and postgraduate students training to become the Bioscientists, Psychologists, Nurses, Paramedics, Midwives and Veterinary Surgeons of the future. Our facilities and those of the wider University present a wonderful backdrop for the right person to contribute to wider society and develop their skills and career.
The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences is actively seeking a dynamic individual to join the FHMS Faculty Research and Innovation Office (FRIO) in the role of Costings Officer. This exciting opportunity will suit a professional, enthusiastic, and well-motivated individual keen to develop their experience within the project budgeting, costing and pricing areas of research support. This is a key role supporting the effective administration of externally funded research projects, from the costing and development of research grant applications through to the set-up of new research projects. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with other professional service team members to deliver essential support services to the faculty's research community. Working collaboratively and proactively, the post holder will play a pivotal role in ensuring the timely preparation and submission of bids in line with internal and external deadlines. We seek a proactive individual proficient in IT, adaptable to change, and capable of working autonomously with a keen eye for detail.
About you
This role requires strong interpersonal and organisational skills, showcasing adaptability and flexibility in managing evolving workloads and priorities. You should possess good IT skills, including MS Office and be willing to learn the different University IT systems. The role will include advising colleagues on funder terms and conditions, advising on appropriate costing approaches for different funders, and ensuring the timely submission of all applications. Exposure to research or academic environments is advantageous but not a prerequisite. The successful candidate will be able to multitask and manage a varied workload, ranging from delivering advice and guidance to researchers and triaging queries received to the Faculty Research and Innovation Office. We are seeking a flexible, enthusiastic, and dependable individual who can thrive both as part of a team and independently. In addition to a competitive salary, the successful candidate will enjoy 32 days of annual leave/closure days and a comprehensive benefits package, including pension contributions and discounted membership to the renowned Surrey Sports Park.
How to apply
To apply, please upload your CV and a cover letter outlining how your experience and skills meet the requirements of the role. You will also be asked some brief questions to help us understand your suitability for the position.
