Full Job Description
The Controls Automation Systems Engineer Intern will work within defined parameters to support the Control Automation team in the design and implementation of hardware control cabinets, control system architecture, IED configuration, and HMI/SCADA systems. The intern will be part of a project delivery team responsible for defining hardware, system configuration, and network technical requirements for HVDC control systems used in substation and power system applications.,
- Support the configuration of IEC 61850 IEDs using system configuration tools for complete system integration
- Assist with HMI/SCADA system implementation, testing, and installation
- Gain exposure to interlocking principles used in substation automation systems and their implementation on IEC 61850 IEDs
- Support the preparation and maintenance of I/O Lists and Master Signal Lists
- Prepare and present technical information related to Substation Control Systems for internal and external stakeholders
- Assist with site activities related to the installation and commissioning of control systems
- Ensure proper documentation of technical data in accordance with engineering policies and procedures
- Follow departmental standard design practices, engineering reviews, and technical guidelines
Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics Engineering, or a related field - Basic understanding of communication protocols such as, Basic understanding of control panel design, preferably in substation or power plant environments
- Basic knowledge of Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Substation Automation Systems (SAS)
- Familiarity with engineering tools such as: o AutoCAD o E Base o Microsoft Visio
- Basic understanding of fiber optic cabling systems
- Basic knowledge of electrical designs for industrial control systems Desired Characteristics:
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to analyse and resolve technical problems
- Basic knowledge of networking and cybersecurity systems
- Exposure to or interest in HVDC systems or power engineering applications
