Full Job Description
This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of dedicated consultants and other members of the multidisciplinary teams to help shape a modernising mental health service, which has been transformed following recent changes in community settings and inpatient provision.
The consultant will work on the Inpatient Unit at North View, North Manchester General Hospital. The new post holder will have consultant responsibilities for Fern Acute Ward. They will provide leadership and medical input. They will fulfil the role of the Responsible Clinician. They will be involved in training junior doctors, teaching medical students and engage in clinical management, audit and governance.
The team consists of:
o 1 full time Consultant Psychiatristo 1 WTE Specialty Trainee or staff gradeo 1 Core Trainee/GP Traineeo 1 Foundation year trainee (not guaranteed)o 1 x WTE Consultant Psychologist (covering North View) with a team of psychologists/assistant psychologistso 1 x WTE Ward Managero 2 x WTE Deputy Ward Manager/Charge Nurseo 10 x WTE Registered Mental Health Nurseso 10 x WTE Support workerso 1 x WTE Occupational Therapistso Access to Specialist Pharmacisto Shared secretary, o Provide clinical leadership for the ward team and trainees.o The ward has 17 beds and patients can be admitted from across the trust patch covering the boroughs of Manchester, Salford, Trafford, Bolton and Wigan.o Conduct ward reviews, ward rounds, board rounds and support the team to complete CPA reviews.o Undertake assessments of admissions to the service.o Assist team to diagnose and formulate management plans in all presentations.o Assessment and management of risk including of vulnerability, suicide risk, risks to health and safety and risk of harm to others.o Coordinate care with input from pharmacists.o Preparation of Mental Health Review Tribunal and Managers' Hearings reports and attendance at subsequent hearings.o Preparation of consent to treatment paperwork as well as any other MHA work such as section 17 leave, section renewals and CTOs if required.o Be inquest supervisor for resident doctors attending medical inquests for incidents while clinical supervisor for the
resident doctor.o Work in a collaborative way with multidisciplinary teams including external partners.

o Lead clinical decision making in the multidisciplinary team to ensure the delivery of high-quality careo Develop service clinical priorities in line with national and professional guidance and standards
