Full Job Description
This is a replacement post joining a team of 4 Consultants responsible for the provision of Acute Adult Mental Health services to the Health Board.
The Mental Health Division is responsible for providing Adult Mental Health Services, Older People Mental Health Services, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services and Substance Misuse Services. The successful candidate will work within the Adult Mental Health Directorate.
The 4 consultant posts have 2 consultant posts allocated to Ward F in Neath Port Talbot Hospital. There are also 2 consultant posts that are allocated to the treatment wards, Clyne and Fendrod, Cefn Coed Hospital. This post will make up the 4th consultant post, based in Fendrod Ward.
Fendrod ward is a male acute, admission and treamtne ward and there are 20 beds. The consultant will be supported with a team of 10 nurses and 9 health care support workers and in addition there is 1 ward clerk and 1 activities coordinator to support and engage with the patients regularly to undertake different activities. The admission and treatment ward teams are supported by colleagues who specialize in physiotherapy, occupational therapy and psychology with a psychologist onsite working with patients in additional sessions as part of their treatment.

Main duties of the job
You will provide a clinical service, with colleagues, which will include the responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.
Working with consultant colleagues and the multidisciplinary team you will have continuing responsibility for the well-being of all patients under your care; allowing for proper delegation to, and training of staff.
You may be named in the contracts of junior staff as the person expected to act as Educational Supervisor for junior medical staff assigned to you; over seeing their training and being the initial source of advice for doctors regarding their careers, within the guidelines of the specialist bodies and Royal Colleges.
You will be required to adhere to the principles of good medical practice laid down in the guidance of 'Good Medical Practice' issued by the General Medical Council.
You will be expected to participate in sufficient personal and professional development to fulfill Royal College and GMC requirements. You will also be required to undergo a job plan review at least annually and to agree and then meet service outcomes.
You will participate in the 1 in 14 on call rota in the SBUHB area, with prospective cover.
