Full Job Description

Perinatal mental health services have undergone significant national expansion. Wave 2 funding supported the creation of comprehensive services across the Black Country and West Birmingham, and North & East Birmingham and Solihull. All teams are multidisciplinary, comprising specialist practitioners from psychology, nursing, occupational therapy and nursery nursing.
These teams work alongside the established 10-bedded inpatient Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) and its inreach/outreach service, which accepts referrals nationally. The MBU is now commissioned by the West Midlands Perinatal Provider Collaborative.
This post provides consultant cover for the Solihull perinatal team. The postholder will also work collaboratively with other perinatal and MBU consultants to provide reciprocal cover for community teams and the inpatient MBU during periods of absence.
The role involves extensive multi-agency working with key partners including child protection services, health visiting services, public health teams, maternity services, primary care, children's centres and the voluntary sector. Providing training, consultation and advice to partner agencies is an important aspect of the role, alongside effective information sharing to ensure safe and coordinated care throughout pregnancy and the postnatal period., The post holder will;
+ Provide expert assessment and treatment of women with a wide range of mental health problems during pregnancy and the post-partum period in the Solihull area, formulate care plans informed by best evidence based practice and on-going treatment of these women up to two years post-partum
+ Provide psychiatric leadership and clinical expertise to support the work of multi-disciplinary teams, including contributing to Case conferences and clinical consultation. Contribute to the teaching and training of all professionals coming into contact with women during the perinatal period in relation to maternal mental health across the region
+ Develop risk assessment and management plans in conjunction with the Multidisciplinary team, service user, carers and other involved agencies and facilitate maximum empowerment of the service user and carer in developing informed choice of treatment interventions
+ Collaborate with other providers of maternal mental health care within Solihull and the West Midlands region towards more integrated referral pathways and patterns of care
+ Provide Approved Clinician responsibility for the relevant patients
