Full Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic Consultant Surgeon with a subspecialist interest in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery to join our Breast Unit at the Royal United Hospital Bath., This is a full-time opportunity for an experienced Consultant Surgeon with a subspecialist interest in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery at the Royal United Hospital Bath.

This new post has been developed to support the continued expansion of our surgical services and to work in close partnership with the radiology team as we transition from a primary imaging-first approach to an integrated One Stop Clinic model. This service evolution is central to delivering timely, high-quality care and meeting the 28-day and 62-day cancer pathway targets.

This role presents an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and forward-thinking team of Consultants within the Breast Multidisciplinary Team (MDT). The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping service development while delivering excellent, patient-centred care in a collaborative and supportive environment.

Main duties of the job

This role is fully dedicated to breast care, with a job plan focused exclusively on the Breast Unit and no requirement for general surgery commitments. The post offers the opportunity to work within a well-established and supportive multidisciplinary team, contributing to high-quality oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery services.

You will play an active role in the Breast Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), working collaboratively with colleagues across specialties and participating fully in MDT meetings to support excellent patient outcomes. The role is designed to complement and strengthen the existing surgical provision within the service.

The post holder will contribute to clinical audit, attend directorate and departmental meetings, and undertake associated administrative responsibilities as directed by the Breast Service Clinical Lead. There is an expectation of shared team responsibility, including providing cover for colleagues during periods of leave.

We encourage applicants with an interest in research and medical education. Opportunities exist to participate in and lead teaching, research projects, courses, and other initiatives that enhance both the department and the wider Trust.

The Trust is committed to supporting new consultants and offers a structured mentorship scheme to help you settle into the role and thrive in your career at RUH.

Attendance at, and contribution to, relevant meetings is an integral part of the position.

We are proud to be part of BSW Hospitals Group - a formal partnership between the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust, Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust. With a combined workforce of over 17, 600 colleagues, and budget of 1.6 billion the Group is united by a common purpose to deliver the best possible care to over 1 million people.

We are creating a health and care system that works with the people we care for, reducing the differences people currently face in access, experience and outcomes, improving the experience of our colleagues and tackling shared challenges like sustainability and finances. Every improvement we make across our Group will be guided by what creates the greatest benefit for our colleagues, our patients, our communities and our partners.

By working together, we make a real difference for our patients, each other, and our community. Every role matters in delivering the exceptional, person-centred care we're proud of.

We're committed to a compassionate, inclusive culture where kindness is championed, differences are valued, and diversity makes us stronger.

We want to support you to thrive, taking your career to its full potential. We prioritise staff wellbeing - and yes, we even have a pool!
