Full Job Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled Consultant Diagnostic Neuro Radiologist with an interest in Head and Neck Imaging, to join a team of 6 Neuro-radiologists in a busy, dynamic department of 48 WTE radiology consultants delivering first class emergency and non-acute services.
The post holder will contribute to the provision of a first-class service supporting Head and Neck, ENT, Neurosurgery, Spinal Surgery, Neurology, Stroke Team and Oncology. The Neuroradiologists have a well-established, warm and collaborative relationship with their clinician colleagues in these areas and support patient management through MDT's and clinic-radiological conferences. MDTs are rotated equally between colleagues with appropriate preparation and admin time allocated.
Currently we provide advanced imaging to support trauma, oncology, stroke, spine, dementia, ENT and maxillofacial services. We also have adequate support from our local clinical scientists to perform and improve specialist MRI for brain tumour, stroke, etc. Planned service developments include thyroid nodule US-guided ablation.
The department has 48 wte substantive radiologists covering all sub-specialities, around 42 Postgraduate Doctors in Training, along with fixed term specialist doctors and subspecialty fellows.
The department performs and reports approximately 400,000 examinations per annum, with a high proportion of complex imaging and procedural radiology., This is a permanent full time Neuroradiology post which, in conjunction with 6 other Consultant Neuroradiology colleagues, will provide a comprehensive neuroradiology and head and neck service to the University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust.
Successful applicants will contribute to a 1:7 diagnostic neuro on-call rota, scheduling of sessions is by mutual agreement.
We are a Level 1 Trauma centre for a population of 2.6 million, a regional Vascular Hub and the 3rd busiest vascular unit in England, the first 24/7 mechanical thrombectomy service in the UK with an active role in training hybrid IRs to support the stroke service. The post-holder will be involved in all acute imaging, underpinning these services. The successful candidate will also support a network of regional services together with a team of allied clinicians, surgeons and oncologists they will help deliver and develop a high quality, evidence based, patient centred service.
A desirable but not essential attribute would be the ability to contribute to the service for US, fluoroscopy and CT guided intervention. The US guided FNA and biopsy sessions are supported by cytology technicians and appropriately trained nursing/IDA staff.
We are a Level 1 trauma centre and a Consultant job here will provide great exposure to acute Neuro radiology imaging.
The University Hospital is the main teaching hospital for Keele University Undergraduate Medical School there are also close ties with Staffordshire University.
UHNM has a robust diagnostic imaging training program, as part of the West Midlands Deanery. There are around 42 postgraduate doctors in training (PGDit), as well as at least one Foundation doctor. The on-call services are well supported by the PGDiT 24/7. To support training there is the award-winning West Midlands Imaging Academy, offering a range of state-of-the-art simulators for US and interventional procedures together with rooms of dedicated workstation linked with the latest audio-visual equipment. The Imaging Academy has recently launched the first dedicated training programme for mechanical thrombectomy in England. Keele University Medical School has a radiology curriculum, with medical students rotating through the department.
