Full Job Description

Maintenance of high-quality patient centred care for vascular patients. This includes ward rounds, main theatre sessions, day surgery sessions, OPD, on call and MDT.

- Shared responsibility for the day-to-day management of the service and participation in strategic planning

- Teaching and training within the multidisciplinary service

- Active involvement in multidisciplinary team meetings and directorate clinical governance activity

- Active participation in continuing medical education

- To provide a high standard of care to any patient for whom you have clinical responsibility. This will include any patients referred to you and cared for by you personally or by members of your team.

- To assume responsibility, both personally and corporately with consultant colleagues, for the management of junior medical staff. You are expected to be involved in their professional development, both clinical and personal as per guidance from the Deanery.

The Vascular Surgery clinical service is provided by a group of vascular surgeons who provide a 24-hour consultant led emergency service for the South-West Thames Vascular Network. The managed Network encompasses the following Hospitals: St George's, Kingston, St Helier, Epsom, Croydon, Queen Mary's Hospital (Roehampton), Ashford and St Peter's and East Surrey.

SGVI has an international reputation for the treatment of complex aortic disease and innovative endovascular therapy for both thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms. There is an extensive endovascular program, which is one of the largest in the UK and involves fenestrated and branch endovascular technology. The Institute also has a well-established carotid practice with support from a multi-disciplinary team of neurologists and stroke physicians.

The treatment of lower limb peripheral vascular disease is assuming a greater focus within the Institute, with the development of an endovascular practice using the newest technologies. Endovascular treatment of patients with lower limb peripheral vascular disease is undertaken by both vascular surgeons and interventional radiologists with a vascular interest., St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of 1.3 million across south-west London. A large number of services, such as cardiothoracic medicine and surgery, neurosciences, vascular and renal transplantation, also cover significant populations from Surrey and Sussex, totalling around 3.5 million people.
