Full Job Description
University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant in Restorative Dentistry to join its commissioned Head and Neck Specialist Service. Restorative dentistry is a core component of the service and, as a designated tumour site, restorative expertise is embedded within the multidisciplinary team (MDT).
Further information about the service and this role can be found in the Restorative Dentistry Recruitment Brochure
The post-holder will work within an established Head and Neck MDT alongside colleagues in oral and maxillofacial surgery, ENT, oncology, radiology, healthcare science and prosthetics, with joint clinics enabling coordinated patient assessment and treatment planning.
The service benefits from close integration with an on-site Maxillofacial prosthetics laboratory, providing experienced scientific and technical support, digital surgical planning and in-house 3D printing.
Outpatient care and treatment clinics are based at Poole Hospital, with access to three dedicated dental treatment rooms and additional clinical spaces, while inpatient and complex surgical activity will transition to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital under the Trust's clinical model.
The Lab is scheduled for a state-of-the-art refurbishment in 2026. There is genuine scope for the successful candidate to influence and help shape the future direction of the restorative service, supported by strong leadership arrangements and links into a wider managed clinical network., We are ideally seeking a full-time appointment of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs); however, recognising the specialist nature of this role, we welcome applications from candidates wishing to work part time. The minimum commitment for the post is 0.4 WTE (4 PAs per week), with flexibility up to full time. There is a requirement for availability on a Tuesday to support attendance at the weekly multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting, which is a key element of the role.
UHD are investing, developing and transforming Trust services in line with the New Hospital Programme. As part of this, some services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or permanently. Recruiting Managers will be happy to answer any service-specific questions at interview.
If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Any other changes will be managed under Trust or national terms and conditions.
UHD is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and actively supports staff networks including Women's, BAME, Pride, EU, Pro Ability and Armed Forces. The Trust is a member of the Disability Confident and Armed Forces Covenant schemes AI-assisted tools may be used during application preparation; however, applications must accurately reflect an individual's own skills, experience and knowledge. Integrity is central to our recruitment process. We reserve the right to close this advertisement early if we receive a high volume of suitable applications
A one-off recruitment incentive of up to £20,000 is available for this post for candidates appointed on a full-time basis (10 PAs). For part-time appointments, the incentive will be paid on a pro-rata basis, proportionate to the number of Programmed Activities committed. Full details will be confirmed at offer stage.
Where applicable, relocation support may be available for candidates who are moving into the area, in accordance with the Trust's relocation expenses policy.
The Trust offers funded study leave and protected CPD time in line with national medical terms and conditions, access to high-quality research infrastructure through the Dorset Clinical Research Centre and Dorset Clinical Trials Unit, and support from the Medical Education team for professional development.
