Consultant in Paediatric Allergy

This post offers the opportunity to deliver complex allergy care and to help shape the future of the service by delivering innovative therapeutic approaches within the clinical and research MDT. Imperial is the Lead Allergy Service for the North West London Allergy Network caring for over 5500 children with allergy and their families. The post offers the opportunity to contribute to the care of children with allergy across the network through shared learning and by modelling of excellent care. The postholder will be expected to undertake clinical activity including General and Complex Paediatric Allergy Clinics, Baby clinic and participate in support and supervision of Paediatric Allergy Day unit activity. The successful applicant will show that they will be calm and effective in emergency scenarios, holding a valid APLS or equivalent certificate. The postholder will actively contribute to weekly MDT meetings including Complex Allery MDT. Formal and informal education and supervision of resident doctors and education and support of medical students and MDT members of allied specialities is an important part of the role. The successful applicant will bring an open, warm and collaborative approach to teaching and supervision in these areas., The successful applicant will deliver an 8PA job plan of 6.4 PA DCC and 1.6PA SPA. Individual job plans will be devised with the successful applicant upon appointment but a suggested job plan is given in the job description. DCC activity will consist of 3-3.5 clinics per week, day unit support, vetting/advice and guidance, MDT and safeguarding meeting attendance. SPA time will include supervision of resident trainees, contribution and service development and clinical governance as well as maintenance of mandatory training. • Able to speak and write English to the appropriate standard necessary to fulfil the job requirements, Evidence of achievement appropriate to appointment at consultant level at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust
  
  MRCPCH by examination or equivalent
• Full GMC registration
• On the GMC's Specialist Register OR within six months of CCT at time of scheduled interview. Note: CESR applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application
• Level 3 safeguarding or above Advanced Paediatric Life Support Training (APLS/EPALS) or equivalent, Experience of teaching and training undergraduates/postgraduates and junior medical staff
Audit,
• Understanding of principles of clinical audit
• Experience of service evaluation/audit in allergy services, Clinical experience in paediatric allergy care, transition/adolescent allergy and integrated clinical networks
• IT Skills and computer literacy
• Strong expertise in holistic biopsychosocial approach to patients
• Consultant experience of clinical management of complex multi-system allergy in MDT settings
• Evidence of establishing good working relationships with MDT colleagues
LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT SKILLS,
• Able to take responsibility, show leadership, make decisions, exert appropriate authority
• Have proven skills in leading, motivating, developing and managing the performance of colleagues
• Knowledge of finance/budgets
• Experience in management of teams
• Experience in service development/change implementation in allergy related areas
