Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (Fertility)

An enthusiastic and highly motivated clinician is invited to apply for the post of Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist with special interest in fertility. This is a substantive position and post holder will work within Women and Children's division based at Newham University Hospital, which is part of Barts Health NHS Trust, one of the largest NHS trusts in the UK. A wide experience in General Obstetrics and Labour Ward Management is expected for this post. This is a 10.00 Programmed activities (PA) role. The post holder will join the existing team of 23 Consultants in the department and is expected to complement existing sub specialities, but full support and training will be provided in developing a new speciality interest based on the needs of the service.

The duties of the post holder may also involve working on other sites of Barts NHS Trust depending on clinical needs and clinical interests. The post will support the implementation of the EWTD standards and compliance with working hours and as part of the Trust's response to achieving NHS targets including the 18-week referral to treatment target and the A&E waiting targets.

In response to increasing demand on maternity capacity and one of the highest birth rates in the UK at over 5500/year, the Trust has developed an integrated Women's & Family Health Unit on site, which provides modern and effective facilities for Maternity, Neonatal Care, Fetal Medicine, Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit, Emergency Gynaecology Assessment Unit, Specialized and General Gynaecology and Adolescents. The service reconfiguration enables more streamlined pathways of care to be implemented, as well as provides more attractive facilities for patients and their families through the consumer engagement. Maternity wards include new Maternity Assessment Unit, Fetal Medicine Unit, antenatal ward, postnatal ward and central delivery suite.

During the daytime the consultant provides dedicated Central Delivery Suite (labour ward) cover from 08.00 to 16.00 with the second consultant covering antenatal and postnatal wards and gynaecology ward including emergency gynaecology. There is consultant presence on site till 22.00 hours for all seven days of the week. The group of consultants work on a 'hot day' basis, with all other regular commitments cancelled., Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain's leading healthcare providers.
