We are seeking to appoint a dedicated, enthusiastic and forward-thinking Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to join our dynamic team of 16 Consultants. This is a 10 PA locum appointment with a 1 in 12 resident on-call commitment, covering both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The successful candidate will also take on the important leadership role of Lead for Cancer Diagnostics and Urgent Suspected Cancer Pathways, helping to drive service improvement and ensure the delivery of high-quality, timely care for women across our region. Our maternity service supports approximately 4,200 to 4,600 births each year and has achieved an 'Outstanding' CQC rating in the last two inspections, reflecting our commitment to delivering exceptional care for women, babies and families. The Consultant-led maternity unit at the Royal United Hospital, BathTwo Midwifery-Led Units based in Frome and ChippenhamA Level 2 Neonatal Unit providing specialist neonatal careOur Gynaecology Services The Gynaecology Department offers a comprehensive range of specialist services, including: Ambulatory Gynaecology, including polypectomy, NovaSure and manual vacuum aspiration (MVA),Urogynaecology,Early Pregnancy Services,Gynaecological Oncology, supported by four specialist consultants,Endometriosis and Fibroid Services,Reproductive MedicinePaediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology (PAG)Menopause ServicesColposcopy, The job will be a combination of both Obstetrics and Gynaecology care, both elective and emergency work. The job plan has the potential to be tailored to the specialist interest of the successful candidates. The Consultants provides the out of hours and clinic gynaecological ultrasound service so having a good level of gynaecological and early pregnancy scanning skill is desired. Our Obstetrics & Gynaecology department is nationally recognised for excellence in training. We recently received top accolades in all four categories of the Training Evaluation Form (TEF) survey in the medium-sized hospital category. Regionally, we are consistently ranked in the top three, and nationally within the top ten. We strongly encourage involvement in research, quality improvement initiatives, and teaching, with active collaborations in place with the University of Bath, University of Exeter, and the Bath School of Postgraduate Medicine. The job plan will be agreed with the Clinical Leads for Gynaecology & Obstetrics and Workforce prior to commencement of the post. What We Are Looking For We are seeking an individual who is passionate about delivering high-quality patient care, demonstrates excellent clinical and leadership skills, and is committed to service development, teaching and multidisciplinary collaboration. The successful applicant will play a key role in shaping and enhancing services within a progressive and ambitious department. The RUH is also at the forefront of minimally invasive surgery, with two surgical robots in daily clinical use, supporting the delivery of advanced gynaecological procedures.

  • MRCOG Postgraduate professional qualification.
  • Entry on Specialist Register (or entry expected within 6 months of interview date),
  • Advanced training modules, ATSM / SITM in: Gynae-onc or benign gynae surgical care
  • Experience as a unit lead for Gynae-onc
  • Colposcopy / Hysteroscopic skills, Ability to work as an independent practitioner in Obstetrics and emergency gynaecology
  • Evidence of experience in specialist field - gynae-oncology / cancer diagnostics
  • Competent in gynaecological scanning, Ability to perform Obstetric Ultrasound - Growth Scans, Doppler, cervical length
  • Robotic gynaecological experience
