Full Job Description
The appointee will join a team of 30 Consultants in Intensive Care who have a variety of special interests including renal medicine, trauma, research, emergency surgery, and neurosciences.
The Emergency Unit at UHW sees total attendances of 140,000 per year and 11,000 at Barry Minor Injuries Unit. 36,000 patients attend by emergency ambulance each year and 26,000 patients are admitted through the Unit each year. Approximately 40,000 attendances are under 16.
There are excellent links with Cardiff University and Health Education and Improvement Wales (HEIW). As a teaching unit, we are driving forward a programme of medical education, international research, and innovations in intensive care. This is an excellent opportunity for dynamic individuals with the appropriate skills to join our multidisciplinary team.
Applications are invited for an exceptional candidate to join the Critical Care Directorate as part-time Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine, working 8 sessions per week based at University Hospital of Wales (UHW), Cardiff, with some cover also provided at the nearby University Hospital Llandough. This post is split between Critical Care (5 sessions) and Emergency Medicine (3 sessions).
This is an exciting time to join the Health Board with reconfiguration of the Critical Care footprint and planned expansion of our services in line with growing demand.

Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £88,192 per annum to £128,760 per annum for an 8-session commitment.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full.
