Consultant in Gynaecology

Applications are invited to apply for the above post in the Gynaecology Department at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is one of three new consultant posts, part of a planned expansion to meet increased demand in urgent suspected cancer. The department is seeking a capable and motivated doctor who enjoys working in a tertiary referral service and wishes to effect change and improve care for patients within this service The postholder will join an existing team of 18 NHS Gynaecologists / Gynaeoncologists and 5 University of Oxford Clinical Academics, who together provide both a local gynaecology service to the population of Oxford and a highly specialist tertiary service in Gynae-oncology, Urogynaecology, reproductive medicine, endometriosis. This post is a Trust wide position with clinical sessions at the Horton Hospital in Banbury and the John Radcliffe Hospital sites. The focus of this post is to oversee and streamline care for women referred on an urgent suspected cancer pathway. The successful candidate will be expected to strengthen the link between the benign gynaecology diagnostic service and the Gynaeoncology team. The successful candidate will have the ATSM in oncology and be competent at laparoscopic hysterectomy., Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust provides gynaecology services across three sites (John Radcliffe Hospital Oxford, Horton Hospital Banbury and the Churchill Hospital, Oxford). The successful applicant may be required to work across all sites. The successful candidate will ideally be able to support all urgent suspected cancer pathways, including hysteroscopy, colposcopy and surgery, both open and laparoscopically. It would be an advantage to be able to support complex benign surgeries as well. The successful candidate will be expected to keep up to date with emergency gynaecology, reviewing patients in the 'hot clinic' and giving advice to the specialist Early Pregnancy team when on call. The post-holder will be expected to undertake theatre lists (the majority of the surgery undertaken is minimal access) at the John Radcliffe hospital (including regular (1:4) weekend lists) and at the Horton Hospital in Banbury as required., The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.

• Primary medical qualification
• MBBS/MBCHB
• MRCOG/FRCOG
• CCT or equivalent (or be within 6 months of CCT at the time of application)
• ATSM in gynaecological oncology
• ATSM in benign gynaecology
• ATSM in hysteroscopy
Desirable criteria
• Higher medical degree, Evidence of advanced skills in laparoscopic gynaecology including total laparoscopic hysterectomy for low grade endometrial carcinoma
• Experience managing and treating emergency gynaecology cases.
• Ability to take independent responsibility for the clinical care of patients in a tertiary setting
• Evidence of experience working within a multidisciplinary team
Desirable criteria
• Evidence of having worked at consultant level in a teaching hospital
• Willingness to contribute to the medically complex TOP service, Evidence of involvement with project leadership within Gynaecology
• Evidence of having implemented change within the clinical setting
• Evidence of authorship of clinical guidelines at a local or national level.
