Full Job Description
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Emergency Medicine to join our existing team of Consultants to commence as soon as possible
The world is your oyster- as an EM consultant you really can work anywhere. So why work with us at Southend?
The most important aspect of your job is your colleagues- you will be spending a lot of time with them! So you could come and join what has been reported by our trainees as 'the friendliest and most supportive team I have ever worked in'. You will find out why we have only green outliers on the GMC survey and why virtually every rotating trainee who leaves joins us on our bank. That's why we have zero (yes zero) agency spend on doctors.
We have approximately 130 000 attendees a year but we stream over 20% every day to the onsite GP service- so you will only have to see and manage true EM patients. We have a separate paeds ED area for which we also stream away to GP those that are not emergencies. We encourage a variety of job plans of various PAs to suit (all with 2.5 SPA) and would look to integrate your specialist interests into your role. We are passionate about clinical shop floor presence and training and want hands on clinicians to join us.
JD is pending Royal College approval., As a Consultant Emergency Physician, you will be expected to work with other members of the Emergency Medicine Team to provide first class clinical care in Adult and Paediatric Emergency Medicine.
You will provide clinical leadership, including running and delivering RAT (Rapid Assessment and Treatment) and supervision/teaching of junior medical staff. RAT has been implemented as part of a new model for delivering emergency care at the Trust that takes on a whole system approach.
Emergency Medicine consultants provide shop-floor cover 15 hours a day, inclusive of weekends and Bank holidays.
The post-holder will be expected to take an appropriate share in the management and administrative workload of the Department. Consultant engagement in planning and developing the service is valued.
The department actively encourages the development of specialist interests within the Emergency Medicine field.
Our ambition is to deliver excellent local and specialist services, to improve the health and well being of our patients, and provide a vibrant place for staff to develop, innovate and build careers.
We aim to make the most of our skills and experiences so we can become the best we can be. As one organisation we will recruit the finest and retain more specialist staff due to more employment opportunities across our Trust
