Full Job Description

King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint substantive consultant in Emergency Medicine. This post will be based at the Princess Royal University Hospital, where we currently have a 12.7 WTE consultant team providing on-site consultant cover from 8am to midnight seven days a week.

Wide experience in Emergency Medicine is essential and eligibility for entry to the specialist register for Emergency Medicine is required. Interest in leadership and management or paediatrics are particularly desirable.

King's College Hospital (PRUH) is a Trauma Unit and part of the SE London, Kent and Medway Trauma Network and is also one of the highest performing Hyper-Acute Stroke Units in the country.

Successful candidates will have the opportunity to enjoy the variety of clinical practice that comes from working in a busy district general hospital setting whilst developing their own special interest both clinically and non-clinically. The driving focus of the department is patient safety and quality of care in addition to the further development of the strong training programmes and innovation in clinical care.

This is a 10 PA position as per breakdown below:

8.5 PAs of direct clinical care to PRUH

1 PA for Supporting Professional Activities for revalidation, and a further 0.5 for specialist interests, The post will be based at the Princess Royal University Hospital, where the postholder will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide and further develop care for patients in the Emergency Department, while contributing to the ongoing development of the Emergency Medicine service at the site. The role includes supporting the wider initiatives and priorities of the Integrated Medicine Care Group, alongside a significant commitment to teaching and training junior staff. Working as part of a supportive team, the postholder will share responsibility for 24/7 Emergency Department cover, contribute to supervision and professional development, and support research, audit, and clinical governance programmes to improve patient care and service quality. The postholder will also contribute to service planning and development, ensuring all activities align with Trust policies, including infection control and patient safety, within a consultant-led 7-day service.
