Consultant in Emergency Medicine

We are excited to be recruiting for a substantiveConsultant and fixed term 12 month, in Emergency Medicine at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust based at Queen Alexandra Hospital to join our current Consultant body to cover both Adult and Childrens Emergency Departments., Our department is one of the busiest in the South of England. We have recently moved into a state-of-the-art new emergency department building, designed with a large 8 bedded resuscitation room, urgent care area, expanded Childrens Emergency Department with an integrated Radiology Hub including onsite CT scanning. The new department has improved both staff and patient experience. The cubiclised layout across the department promotes better infection control as well as dignity and privacy for our patients. As part of the capital build project our emergency department team have been integral in quality improvement across the unscheduled care pathway, this is an ongoing priority of the teams vision to provide the best care possible.

This reflects the Trusts commitment to the service in order for the Emergency Department to deliver high quality and timely care in the face of the pressures resulting from increased emergency admissions and the greater acuity of cases presenting. The department provides mentoring to newly qualified Consultants in order for applicants to develop extended Consultant skills. The Trust has recently been supported by NHSI and has had a number of visits that praised the redirection pathways from triage, the nurse led Emergency Care centre (ECC) as well as all the staffs efforts to improve patient safety.
