Full Job Description

This consultant post is an exciting opportunity to join the dynamic Haematology Team at UHS and further develop our regional myeloma and plasma cell disorders services. We are looking for an enthusiastic haematologist with a demonstrable interest in myeloma and plasma cell disorders, ideally with a track record of clinical and/or scientific research. The post would be ideal for a candidate who wishes to be actively involved in the autologous transplant service for myeloma as well as further developing the clinical trials portfolio. The post will also suit someone with an interest in general and liaison haematology who enjoys team working. You will work as part of the myeloma, myeloid and general haematology team.

UHS haematology services are based at the Southampton General Hospital site and consists of 21 consultants, who work closely alongside teams of resident doctors, specialist nurses and laboratory scientists covering all areas of haematology.

Southampton lies adjacent to the beautiful New Forest and its beaches and is close to the historic town of Winchester. There are direct transport links across the country, including London and Oxford. We collaborate with haematology colleagues and other specialist services across the Wessex and Thames Valley regions.

Our trust supports the development of consultants, including a Doctors' Development Unit that provides mentoring and coaching.

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated 'Good' by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 20% lower than London and 14 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.
