Full Job Description
This is a 10 + 1 PA full time Consultant Haematologist post. The Trust wide post is based at St Helier hospital andcompletes a team of 8 Consultants working across the Trust. The appointee is expected to be broadly skilled and to take part in all the clinical and laboratory work of the Department. This post includes a lead role within the department which can be adjusted to align with the applicant's interests and experience.
A Consultant wishing to work less than full time will be eligible to be considered for the post. Modification of the job content would be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with colleagues. The post is available to start from the 8th June 2026.
1 To always comply with the GMC'S guidance on 'Good Medical Practice'.
2 To ensure that patient confidentiality is always maintained.
3 To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your Clinical Leads.
4 To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
5 On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust's corporate Induction (or arranged Consultant Induction).
6 To participate in the Trust's Statutory & Mandatory training programme.
7 To be responsible for the Clinical Management of in and outpatients under your care.
8 To demonstrate flexibility according to departmental requirements after discussion with the Clinical Lead.

1. The appointee will contribute to the clinical care of patients referred to the Haematology Department at both St Helier and Epsom General Hospitals.
2. Participate in 3 out-patient clinics per week.
3. The appointee will participate in the clinical rotas for the management of the inpatients at St Helier Hospital
4. The appointee will have an office with own desk and personal computer. They will have access to a microscope, including 2- and 6- headed microscopes for teaching purposes.
5. Dedicated secretarial support is provided by shared medical secretaries/patient pathway co-ordinators.
6. Responsible for advising all laboratory users, including general practitioners, on general haematology problems, as required.
7. This post also encompasses a lead role, to which 1 PA is allocated. This is currently planned to be the Haemato-Oncology MDT lead role.
There will be an opportunity to review the division of responsibilities within Haematology once an appointment is made. The final job plan will reflect the agreed division between all the Consultants and the post holder's area of expertise.
