We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Consultant Gynaecologist to join the East Gynaecology Unit at the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to join a supportive and progressive department committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred gynaecological care. More detail about the role The successful candidate will become an integral member of the East Gynaecology Unit, working alongside the Gynaecological Oncology team to support the delivery and continued development of benign gynaecology services. The post has been developed to strengthen the resilience and breadth of the East Gynaecology Unit by increasing consultant capacity across elective gynaecology, colposcopy, urgent suspected cancer (USC) pathways and outpatient services. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver high-quality patient care while contributing to ongoing service development and innovation.,
- Participate in the East Gynaecology on-call rota (currently 1:8).
- Deliver elective benign gynaecology outpatient clinics and operating lists.
- Contribute to colposcopy and urgent suspected cancer (USC) services.
- Support the Emergency Gynaecology Unit.
- Participate in the Gynaecological Oncology MDT and work collaboratively with the Gynaecological Oncology team to support patient pathways.
- Contribute to service development projects aligned with Trust priorities, including improving outpatient capacity, diagnostic pathways and service resilience.
- Participate in teaching, educational supervision, audit, research and clinical governance activities. Experience in colposcopy is highly desirable, and applicants with additional specialist interests that complement the needs of the department are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop specialist interests that align with departmental priorities, and we are committed to supporting continued professional development, education, quality improvement and innovation.
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Obstetrics and Gynaecology (or be within six months of CCT at the time of interview).
- MRCOG or equivalent qualification.
- Evidence of clinical competence and experience in benign gynaecology.
- Experience in outpatient gynaecology and elective benign gynaecology surgery. Desirable:
- BSCCP Accreditation (or equivalent experience in colposcopy).
- Experience contributing to urgent suspected cancer (USC) pathways.
- Experience supporting gynaecological oncology services.
- Evidence of service development, quality improvement and multidisciplinary working.

The on-call supplement is currently category A and attracts a supplement of 5% of basic salary, We will work together to maintain a culture that develops and supports you and your team. This might include funding for a care certificate, a degree or leadership qualifications. Or it might include days off to study, engage in CPD or rotational placements to help you hone your skills. Wherever you are heading in the NHS, we'll help you get there. Looking after you is important to us. We strive to help our staff create a healthy work-life balance through flexible working schemes and our family friendly policies. If you're starting out in the NHS, you'll start with 27 days paid annual leave (plus bank holidays), rising to 33 days plus bank holidays.
